I love all the new stuff! But please, Chucklefish, I want to give you a little request, add a hoodie, a sports/running jacket, and a varsity/university jacket, just please, they could look awesome in the game!
What worries me a little (actually, not just "just a little", but quite a bit) is that there's no mention of any other way to progress but quests/ through story - gated missions included. Back then, the promise of quests and generally a heavy focus on RPG elements was what made me buy SB in the first place, but a whole lot of players want to progress completely by exploring/hunting as lone wolfs and make the universe their sandbox. (no reference intended) Now i remember, that 3 major progression paths where promised: Quests, Exploration and PvP. If quests will be the only path you can take, prepare for a flame war. Players will be mad and for good reason, if that'd be the case.
When the Starbound devs "upset the community" with their decisions, some members create Mods that reversed those "bad decisions". Most notable was CLeF: http://community.playstarbound.com/resources/clef-things-to-do-in-starbound.2622/ or even the recent thread that had the devs promising to turn a few in-game assets (penguin boss tank) into an actual vehicle, if and only IF, a starbound kickstarter was funded. Several members of the community stood up again and offered to turn those assets into vehicles via the creation of their own custom Mods. Time and again, Modders seem to pick up the slack. That being said, I hope there are multiple ways to progress (officially released), rather than just quests. As a sidenote, @Devs: Are you going to do anything with Asteroids? *They're pretty useless right now.
They use to have mining sites/mini dungeons in the asteroids. That being said, here's a suggestion I had back when hover tech was being discussed: "Personally, I wouldn't mind a hoverbike with not only a more "flight" capable engine, but also having a mining lazer equipped! Honestly, there's actually a lot CF (or the modding community) could do with Hoverbike tech. 1. Underwater exploration/dungeons/bossfights. 2. Asteroid exploration/dungeons/bossfights. 3. Expansion of your "Ship" capabilities/interactions (Dogfights IN SPACE)! 4. Farming Mechs: Overbikes that spray water over crops + Tractor that NPC's (in your colony) can use to harvest/plant your herbs and spices."
Will guns stop being bad as part of the Combat Update? Are there any chances of being able to use some held items while in vehicles? That could pretty much define the usability of some of them, specially those that don't have built-in weapons.
This should answer some of your questions http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/summary-of-iama-with-tiyuri.100161/
Frog pets or GTFO But in all seriousness -- can't wait to test the new patches. They sound wonderful.
Quests? Yeah that makes sense. PvP? Loot the enemies, I guess? Exploration? What, are you gonna find a freaking perfectly good ship license just sitting in a surface chest?
Do people realize how much the survival mechanics add to the game? Its going to be exponentially more difficult and its going to be awesome! (Probably one of the best games you'll ever play)
Are Staves going to get a hefty update as well? It would be easier if you could still move while charging up your staff, or have the projectiles pass through walls or reach further than the current distance so you're not knocked down by a monster before it's done charging.
That's nothing new. They never give out timeframes very far in advance. Otherwise, people would just complain if they're not adhered to. http://community.playstarbound.com/...nder-thread-about-the-hunger-mechanic.102502/
If vehicles can have collisions... do they damage mobs that they run into? Ramming into critters with your space-truck seems a viable alternative to hopping out and swinging a sword at them.
i read hunger was coming. Could you make it an option that we could toggle on or off before we start a game ( like the difficulty option) ? not everyone like to play with survival gameplay, personally its the exploration and creativity aspects of Starbound that i love. adding hunger, thirst or any survival mechanics other than temperature and radiation , that right now act more as a progression mechanic, where dangerous areas become accessible with experience, than a time and ressource management mechanic, would totaly ruin the experience for me and players like me. but i don't know HOW you will implement it, so... maybe i'm panicking too quickly ^^. while i'm talking about options, multiple game types( like survival, creative, or others ) would be great, especially now that survival gameplay is coming.
The new "Survival Mechanics" are suppose to be a separate game mode from what I understand. So having the survival mechanics is likely to be purely voluntary only.
