I see a bit of salt being thrown around here concerning the game only being combat-driven (progression-wise) and want to point out something. There is already a farming progression quest tree (albeit limited) and the devs stated before when revamping farming that they were going to add in progression paths for farming, combat, and mercantile lifestyles. Have we all forgotten this? Do we all conveniently also forget about the revamps to existing merchants, pricing for all items in game, additional recipes, crops, and other ancillary systems? Don't just single out one dev update because it conveniently fails to mention the stuff you were looking forward to. It's still coming. Terraria took 3 years to finish, by comparison, and it exists on a single planet. Relax.
I am going to start playing this game again once it hits 1.0. I am among the ones that bought it when it was first launched, played it for a few months and then stopped, waited for it to get finished. I don't want to play again until everything is where ChuckleFish wants it to be. It's been a long time and a very long wait and I don't want to spoil it right before it is a finished product. Very glad to see that they haven't lost focus and that they've worked on it for so long to make it the best it can be. In my view, this game still remains one of the best of its kind and I absolutely love its amazing mood and the way it uses your imagination to fill out the gaps created by the pixel art. Definitely one of the best SCI-FI titles out there.
I'll just wait and see, maybe you will have to eat that hat, maybe not. As for me, i never pumped my chest claiming to know the future, i am an agnostic, i doubt things.
I am agnostic. And I am also a skeptic, but neither being agnostic or a skeptic precludes having a high degree of confidence regarding a trend based on existing evidence.
There were ideas being thrown out there that it would have involved more than just boss fighting. To begin with, this was fine. But then that is all this game then focused on adding piles of pointless optional content that does nothing for the entire game. Had this been mentioned "this is going to be a game about combat and killing bosses" I probably would have avoided it. I played the huge update of Terraria after it made its way onto the console, and that was whent I pretty much had enough of this game type. Seeing that Starbound isn't going to be any different... I was an idiot to back this. I've learned my lesson. I'll accept whatever this is made as, and for the future refuse to buy an unfinished computer game. Problem is, none of the optional stuff is essential. Hence the word "optional". Would love if combat was optional. There's more to adventure and exploration than fighting monsters/animals.
Wow, hope to see the updates soon. I'm very interested in the quest system and in the small villages radiant quests, want to see too a market between the small villages and wondering if we will leave signals of our passage in the village's. Maybe it's a great time for indie games, even with the change of console genrations. Wondering if we will have gamepad support, i like playing games in my sofa while i am drinking beer, coffe or beer. I like a lot the part of the invitation we can leave to friends via Steam and i hope i can make a surprise to my father (maybe to my uncle and some of my fathers friends, they all are of the first generation of gamers and pixel art feels very noslalgic to them) to when he enter my game, he see somekind of homage," those who have the right amount of flattery can go to rome", remembering i like indie studios because they are rock'n roll, indie studios don't care for what people think and make the things the way they feel right (it's like a picture of the era videogames are just a seed and the market expert just laugh at them like everybody laugh of me playing videogames, but i always think like Rikimaru making my strike in a way that they never forget, them when i leave then behind they go after me because the real value it's the personality i put in my work, i keep up with you guys like i keep up with other studios and i admire your work a lot, Hope someday we can see a lot of great names in the indie and crowdfunding moviment, if that happen would be like a braveheart shout of freedom! Hope without the guillotine but with an extreme emotion.) Hugs
Ok, so is it just the bosses you're complaining about? I can get behind you there: it's probably a bit much to ask for 1.0 but sure, non-lethal alternatives to boss fights would be a huge plus for the game - it's incredibly difficult to make bosses that are challenging for experts but not frustrating for beginners, so alternatives would mean the bosses can be that bit more challenging. If you're talking about all combat (which is the impression you gave) then just how would that work? Would the non-combat progression take you to an entirely different set of planets with peaceful wildlife? I just can't see it working without being a huge chore to implement and balance.
I don't expect anyone to do anything, i only intended to see person's colors by creating a theoretical situation. I didn't even propose to do the bet, if you reread. It just happened to be in your character to rush blindly in someone else's conversation with your mouth open, and declare "Yes, i am".
I read the post. They listed weapon skills by type, monsters, quest generation, vehicles, and bug fixes. But they never said anything about multiplayer updates. At the moment, setting up a server is a pain equivalent to fighting Dreadwing while naked. My dream for this amazing game is to instantly link up with my friends and explore the galaxy together. It took Terraria 3 years to develop an efficient multiplayer system. If Starbound 1.0 did the same thing, they would be ahead of the curve in one more way.
That's weird because when I read your original post: I remembered this distinct sentence from the blog post which you claim to have read: So, to answer your question with a pre-given answer from the blog post, yes, they plan on improving how multiplayer is handled, including the ability to join games through Steam.
Way to completely gloss over my post, which addresses your completely one-sided argument. Listen, since you are so resistant to actually reading full responses and blog posts, how about you just stop. Completely. Plenty of people have tried being reasonable with you, but you apparently just want to pick a fight. So please, just go.
The idea of an entirely different set of planets wouldn't be too bad, although these "different' planets should technically already be in place since it is incredibly difficult to imagine every sing planet with life has creatures that want to kill you on sight, no matter where you go on them. If this truly is a game designed to allow you how you wish to play, then options need to be made available in sufficient scope to allow such to happen. There is effort already in place, but that effort pales in comparison to the combat aspects. Why couldn't combat be optional as everything else is? ? No idea what you are talking about. Being reasonable? With what? I read everything that gets sent my way, twice over to make sure I understand what is being written. Not sure what you mean by being reasonable? Is someone negotiating with me? Is someone actually informing me that I am wrong to say that combat isn't optional and that every other aspect is (meaning optional content doesn't need to be in the game at all)? Anyone disagree how this isn't a "new" version of Terraria? Please, help me out to understand you. Educate me.
