    diamonds get pretty common later on as they start losing use. once you got all the upgrade modules and MM upgrades, theyre pretty much beautiful garbage.

    Yes and no.

    The Diamond Drill digs considerably faster than the fully-upgraded MM. However, it can only dig in a 2x2 block (as opposed to the MM's 4x4), and has a much more limited distance-from-the-player dig range.
