I play alone because nobody I know plays Starbound (They refuse to play games that aren't finished on release, easily understandable).

Though, in ANY game, a party should be 4 to 5 players at most. Any more and it's just a raid/crowd.

Alone. I have no friends.

Call of Duty forever turned me off of online gaming, and Oblivion turned me onto the idea of playing alone.

Well, that and I'm a gigantic modiphile so multiplayer wouldn't work for me anyway.

Honestly, I'd much prefer you guys give us a way to create mod-added NPC followers (like in skyim or such) rather than working on a new multiplayer hud.

I mean yes we can make followers currently but they're... how do I put this... kinda useless ATM. They can't be set to "unkillable". Or if they are killed they have to be respawned (instead you could have them respawn with you.) They can't teleport with you, you can't talk to them (we need a dialogue tree option like in Mass Effect or Skyrim again), you can't give them backstories or interesting things to say, etc. Plus you can't change their weapons out or whatever.

Typically I'm alone, but when my friend gets the server up, it's normally between 3 to 5 people. The current party listing's convenient for small parties, but for larger ones it might need compressing or condensing to avoid overcrowding your view.

Though with the latest stable update (woo mysterious ark!) I have a feeling we'll need a good-sized party to take out the upcoming story bosses.

my parties tend to be either 2 or 4 players, beyond that and things get unlawfully aggressive. chucklefish could take examples from MMOs for their party HUDs, such as GW2s. Then again I never thought of multiplayer as a big, core ish part of starbound, doesnt seem the type imho.

edit: has a follower system ever been considered? not players but NPCs, not trying to get ahead of myself, but I can think of a few mods that would certainly make good use of a follower system

3-4 for me, but I wouldn't want 4 to be a hard limit. There are times when it would be good to have as many as 8.

Id bring 8 friends and use our explosives at once to crash everything. or just fill the screen with effects and probably still crash... or simply build something very big in some random place then leave

  7. Typically solo for me, although it's usually 2-4 when with friends.

My boyfriend and I usually travel together, usually just us two, and the party features aren't all that bad :) we enjoy it both thoroughly!

I'm a foreveralone but I think going for a size of 5 is fair enough, that's usually what games go for.

    Locutos Void-Bound Voyager

    I usually play alone
all my friends who have the game have issues playing it
there's always a firewall or other factors to screw things up, or we have to set up a hamachi network which limits the number of players
idk why there's no support for steam multiplayer
(i'm not asking to remove or change the actual server style, just asking for a "fast online play" with steam friends)

To be technical, I haven't gone online with Starbound (yet), but with most other games I've played with party functionality I'm used being in groups of four or five.

2-4 seems to be about what happens with me. Games like these are so much more fun with multiplayer.

I play alone since there is not protection against thieves and griefers

I generally play Starbound alone, or with a group of about 6 or 7 friends.

I've been playing with my 2 siblings from the beginning (that is, my beginning in March 2014) while hosting myself without any trouble - it went super smooth all the time. Sometimes my cousin, who lives in an other country, joins us too. Never played on other servers, although.
That's why I couldn't evaluate whether the last server improvement was a general improvement or only for official servers. (Are there any?)

In fact, we experienced more lags than the weeks before the last time we played (directly after the update on April 21., but haven't played since), but it might be due to other various factors than the update.
Apart from that it's more than fun to share the experience of finding cool new things, and going through the biomes and missions together. Or just goofing around.

The only thing that I miss too, like said above, is the possibility to directly beam from party member ships to my own.

4 people on average if the server is up but I think I remember us having more back when I played from morning to night.

Usually 4-5 people, including myself, but sometimes my party can get up to 7 people.

thing is, just because you trust them, does not mean they aren't hiding something sinister. Reflect, if you will, the playwright Shakespeare, and his play Julius Caesar.
    The last words Julius says,
" Et tu, Brute?" meaning, "And you, Brutus?"
People can arrogantly, or be naive enough to trust a wolf in a sheep's clothing. This is why i do think things like each player being given the ability to restrict access to chests, or gear to keep trolls from absolutely screwing with their ships.

I only play with my brother, so a group of 2. Though playing with a ton of people would be super cool
