If I was going to take the ego route and name an ore after myself, I'd make it a gemstone. How about Nopel? (kicking christ that was terrible)

I'm less interested in ores themselves, and more the method of refinement. Too many games have you basically just stick X amount of ore in a fireplace and get back X amount of bars. I like it when game mechanics are involved in this rather than just Put X Get X. On Space Station 13, me and some other coders are planning an Arc Smelter for miners - as it is in the game now, the miners just need to go out into the asteroid field, get ore, then bring it back and stick it in a workstation where it can be turned into whatever item you need. We were thinking instead of a simple mechanic like that, you can run the ore through a smelter and do different things to get new types or qualities of ore.

Currently we've got traditional game recipes (for example, 10 Molitz and 10 Pharosium gets you a set of explosive mining charges) but we were planning someday to change it so that ores have properties, and you just need to fulfill the criteria it outlines. Say something simple like a wrench you can use any metal for - so as long as it's actually a metal (not a crystal or salt for example), you're good. But something complicated like Industrial Mechanized Boots would require something like a certain amount of any metal, some conductors, and some dense matter. As long as the ores you have fit those criteria, you're good.
Also the smelter would have recipes that depend on the contents and the state of the smelter - say you just run Mauxite ore through at a good temperature, you'd get back some okay quality mauxite bars. If you ran the temperature higher and ran the mauxite in along with some Char ore, you'd get much higher quality. Things like that.

For the heck of it, since I coded it, here's the ores you can find in Space Station 13:
Mauxite, a basic dull red strong metal like iron
Pharosium, a weak bright orange metal that conducts electricity well
Char, a flaky black sediment (it's space coal who am i kidding)
Cobryl, a soft lustrous blue metal that's good for selling on the trade market
Cytine, a rare gemstone that comes in many colors, fetches a good price
Bohrum, a dull green dense metal that's used for building very strong stuff
Claretine, a red salt that conducts electricity very well
Uqill, a jet black nugget of highly dense matter
Cerenkite, a pale blue metal that glows indigo, dangerous to mine due to its high radioactivity
Plasmastone, a volatile purple mineral that's good to use as high-power fuel
Erebite, a glowing red mineral that will violently explode if you so much as stare at it wrong
Telecrystal, a shining purple jewel with bizarre space-warping properties
Syreline, an enormously valuable weak metal
