What minigames/activities would you like to see?

So as a means to expand upon the content of Starbound, what kind of activities or minigames would you like to see implemented in the game as to relax and take a break from all the exploring? Seems like the only one at the moment is Mazebound 64 so not much else to do at this stage

Wouldn't mind a fishing feature to be added, but dunno how this would work or how it would reward players.
Another idea is to expand upon the Capture Pod system and create an arena in which players can battle NPC's and their monsters...can even be expanded to online PVP play which pits different players together (I know it seems very Pokemon-esque, but kinda seemed so as soon as I saw the original Capture Pod item)

    Ideas?

Right now, none. I want them to finish balancing things and adding the alternative methods of advancing through the tiers and properlu fix ranged combat (playing as a Novakid is not fun, especially in missions like Floran Party) before they add more things that will at most, get used once per character and never get touched again (like that Mazebound 64 game that serves only to keep me from a Blank Tech Card).

I'd like to turn the ship upgrade quest into a mini game.
A sort of laser maze where you use diamonds to craft laser prisms that redirect light connections.
The higher tier ships need more laser prisms.
Laser prisms cost 1 diamond, 1 laser diode, and 1 circuit board.
    Example: Laser Khet 2.0

Please god no, I do not trust CF to pull off anything resembling a good puzzle, and that's required for progression and guess what, not everyone is good at puzzles and mazes.

Of course, right now there's alot that needs to be implemented and fixed before the devs start considering things like this (especially since the game is still in early beta). But further on down the track once that's been sorted there must be some sort of minigame you want to see, no?
But yes, it would have to create lasting appeal and not be a once-off and forgotten feature.

Sounds like an interesting idea for a puzzle but not sure exactly how this would work or how this would tie into the ship upgrade in terms of plot or story.
If it was a minigame that featured its own questline or story it would make much more sense though.

Well the ship is damaged, so we could say the laser positioning system is broken, so you'd need to realign the laser prisms.

FYI, a good trick for that maze game, keep one wall to the left and follow it. you will reach the exit eventually. Or to the right, either way works well for most mazes that don't have floating areas. i.e. not connected to the other walls.

On Topic, would be neat to see the other games in there set up to be playable. Seeing the other paths to play through will be interesting to say the least.

I believe they should make it so the main quest missions are the ones you have to do to get the ship upgrades, and leave the non-main ones for acquiring tech cards.

That laser prism idea sounds kinda cool. could be an alternate upgrade path. Or they could add in a space station where you get a different quest to get the ship upgraded.

I do agree that development should focus on the main game, but it doesn't hurt to kick around some ideas for future additions anyway. I have four ideas knocking around in my head:
    • Some structured PvP minigames could be a lot of fun. Jumping around and trying to blow each other up with rocket launchers (the current state of PvP) is amusing, sure, but let's see something proper. I'd like a free-for-all deathmatch, a team-vs-team arena mode (think Terraria 2DForts), and maybe some others (CtF, KotH, etc). An arena I'd really like to see is a mock spaceship-vs-spaceship battle. Winners get to stand on a podium and feel good about themselves, or maybe you can stake pixels on matches. It'd also add more motivation to go out, explore, and find better loot in the main game - so you can more easily destroy your friends. What better motivation do you need?
    • For those who are forever alone - ahem, prefer singleplayer gameplay, an arena with unique rewards for fighting mobs, NPCs, minibosses, mechs etc could be pretty cool.
    • For the nerds among us, a mode which hands you a limited supply of wiring items and tells you to solve a puzzle to progress to the next level would be great. The first few levels could be very simple and double as a wiring tutorial. Think SethBling's Redstone Challenge, Starbound Edition. I'd be up for helping to design some of the levels...
    • We saw a rudimentary parkour minigame in the Apex structures you can find. They got even better with Upbeat Giraffe, now that block protection is implemented. Now how about time trials - where you're restricted to a certain set of techs and have to make it through an obstacle course? It'd be an exercise in dexterity, but also economy - you'd have to manage your energy pool efficiently, or you'll be slowed down significantly.
All of these minigames would be strictly optional and not necessary for tier progression.

Hacking minigame for some small dungeons with keypad/computers.
Stealth levels using sneak tech or just travelling carefully using pathways and covers, with special NPC (robot that scan in a visible area infront of them?)

I'd like some hacking based games similar to a simplified Uplink that got you money and varying rewards, but that's silly and out of reach.

Now, who here remembers that game? I believe it was simultaneously the most realistic and most unrealistic hacking game I ever played.

I would love to see something of a pixel sink. This may be a bit unconventional, but a slot machine/casino of sorts; akin to Borderlands 2, where you would gamble some of your money for a random weapon, character skin, or hazards. Cosmetic items available in the gamble table would be keen as well.

If they're going to include more of these kinds of things, I think I would like the character controls to be tightened up a bit beforehand. I've had more than a couple runs of these dungeons ruined because I tapped a direction for a half-second too long and ended up in the tesla spikes.

Ugh, trust me, I know that feeling all too well. It's one of the reasons I don't use the dash or FTL techs anymore.

I would -love- to see an in depth weapon crafter.

Perhaps even using something akin to the 3D printer, you feed in an item and can pump out another, only like a TechForgething that you can mix and match like-item skins, effects (poison, flame, ect), and damage, or even improve on to make cooler gear thats signiture to You. Cause I find it boring to have all these random weapons that are virtually useless, but golly gee if I could 'melt' them down to make new/cooler stuff with them? That'd be awesome!

Maybe even taking it a notch farther to add effects to things from 'using' other parts like some thing outlandish like "1h weapon + 2h rifle = Bayonet Right-click stab" Even bullet type changing? Or or Flashlights! The theoretical is endless and would make for interesting reasons to hold onto old gear.

But that would be in the faar future.

Hacking/prism minigame would be a good addition and could even be implemented on certain treasure chests and door in exchange for greater and rarer rewards (or could even be incorporated into its own minidungeon). These could be done with craftable 'hacking tools' which are a onetime use item which allows these doors/chests to be hacked, or keys which can be found which bypasses the hacking entirely. Would fit into the space/technology theme of the game as well, but just an idea to expand upon an idea.

And yeah a pixel sink would be nice as I currently have too much of these and little means or reason in which to spend it.

I approve of all of this, please keep more ideas like this coming!

pong, or a simple space invaders/gyrius game done through the arcade machine. I mean there are 8 different ones, well 7 if you disregard the starbound machine... I am sure those are still in the assets.

I would like to see a few arcade style mini-games to bring more life to those machines.

As far as multiplayer ones... hmm... I do like the arena idea, also maybe a simple sports game that is not a death match; after all we have those paper air planes and ball. I guess soccer or basket ball.. or maybe a cross between the two, using weapon to bounce the ball around and make it into a goal....

Not too great at coming up with mini-games...><

im still waiting for an in depth farming system that requires certain plants to be planted on certain ground with certain light requirements and a water/poison source nearby and perhaps food that decays if you don't pick it.
i know there is most likely a mod but i stopped using them once i started hosing a server.
as for a mini game what a about a top down shooter? like raptor or tyrian obviously not as detailed.

The last game that I played that had turret sections in space was Knights of the Old Republic and let me tell you, that turned me off of turret sections. You can't add too many different minigames of different genres to the game, or else it'll be heavily bloated with rarely used features or just haphazardly slapped onto a dungeon that you play through once per character. There's a term for trying to please everyone with everything and ending up only driving everyone away, it's on TvTropes, but it eludes me right now.

Let's leave PvP the hell alone for now, CF needs to focus on finishing up balancing the game, then they need to tackle all the issues with Multiplayer before they can finish considering pvp because as it stands now, it's way too easy to cheat up a storm on a server and ruin people's days even without pvp.

Unless I can hear more details about the prism thing allowing better rewards, I'm going to be adverse to it. CF would have to show me that completing that prism game on a chest would get me better rewards that are worthwhile, I don't want to go through a long apex lab dungeon, do a prism minigame on the lone chest at the end, complete it, and find out that I got 10 Nanowrap bandages and a few gold bars on top of a single blank tech card. I mean, I remember the Planetside Teleporter mod thread detailing how the mod wouldn't be useful anymore because CF was going to include their own planetside teleporters, and then it was found out that the CF version would only allow teleporting between four specific locations: Home, Ship, Outpost, and Planet, not the wonderful flexibility provided by the mod itself.

Please, please keep in mind that while your ideas may be good ones, CF, well meaning as they are, haven't proved themselves able to pull off good minigames. That prism minigame may very well be used once at the outpost by the Apex scientist NPC to fix one of the computers there so you can get a blank tech card and that would be it. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, as the saying goes.
