What kind of places are you looking forwards to exploring?

I have a thing for underwater exploration in games, so water worlds - hopefully with thriving, and slash or ruined, seabed civilisations - will be something I'll look out for. The idea of swimming through submerged caves, waving a flashlight into the depths, is really appealing to me; as is walking on the bottom of the ocean in a diving suit. I'm imagining the kind of big kelp colony that reaches up to the surface, coral reefs, evil, unhygienic fish; sure these things might not be present in the game as such, but I can riff off what is there and imagine the rest.

What planets will you guys enjoy roaming around? It's pretty tempting to say all of them, but that's cheating. If you're stuck for ideas, listen to the soundtracks that have been released so far - they let out atmosphere like a sinking Zeppelin lets out air, or something.

I want to explore a snowy/icy area, because those kind of places in games can always be rather pretty. It also makes for great atmosphere to build upon.

I'd also like to explore and ocean.

 

The Crystal zones. Yeah, I'm that kind of lady... Man... Plant... Whatever I will be in-game.

 

I can't wait to explore Avian and Floran planets as I really like their aesthetics.

 

Everywhere.

 

I love taking what a game gives me and imagining the rest, some of the best experiences in games for me is getting lost in my own imagination and having fun.

 

I need to see those Floran Butt Rubbing Ceremonies. I need to explore those Butt.... rubbing ceremonies.

 

This hit home for me, I had the identical first thought!! I love the ocean and especially exploration of the dark depths. I am totally hoping that they implement underwater dungeons. Very Bioshock-esque except hopefully not so dreary and horribly disfigured.

I am also really looking forward to the potential of a planet of floating islands. Instant thought is of that from Avatar, where they are climbing from island to island by the vines. Freaking brilliant, as well as beautiful. It is almost blissful in a way just to think of the potential to explore!!

Starbound is going to be so excellent. I have always dreamed of the chance to explore the stars. Unfortunately, personalized space travel is still a long way off... so at least we will get to live out that enjoyment through being 'bound.

I would probably like to explore large civilizations and slink around the ally ways and break into the leaders room and take there stuff. Then cause a war and leave! Ok that's what I'll end up doing so I guess planets with cities and peoples. Not anything underground or underwater cuz there is nowhere to run c:

 

I think the true form of exploration should be the wonders of danger, the more dangerous and difficult the place is, the more fun it becomes to explore. Since you will need to prepare the proper equipment / gear / items / potions / buffs etc.

I'd like to hit a snow world myself, preferably some place with a cool looking aurora. I'd set up a little shack to just chill out at and listen to the stage music, because ice/snow stages always get the best calm music.

 

1. Jungle world full of hostile florans.
2. Volcanic hell, like Io.
3. Ravaged post-apocalyptic wasteland, perhaps with hostile robots.
4. Some not so dangerous worlds with manageable environments, but in really wacky colors.

Either 1 or 2 will become my homeworld eventually.

Ice biomes YEA! So pretty and open. I feel like there's less to worry about in places like that (ironically). Rather then feeling confined to a jungle or some dirt/rock planet, exposed to the elements, I feel safe just chillin' here in my Igloo watchin the aurora. I guess it's the feel that at least logically, there should be very few hostile animals, and if any, they are tend to be promiscuous thus I could just navigate across the easy-to-see and pleasing to the eye environment. Simply why I tend to favor the "rolling mountains" and desert biome in minecraft (but I don't like the plains, too plain and empty).

On another note I also love the feel of "alien" planets. The danger and unknown is rather exciting too, along with all the cool things I can find.

Branching off of that, I just don't like the really plain planets.

 

I think I might enjoy a nice ice planet with an aurora too. Though I'll have to wait and see what else might be available. I'm sure there are some surprises waiting for us explorers.

I'd love to explore some volcanic planets with magma monsters.

 

I want to explore a jungle planet, from the screenshots I've seen, it looks amazing!
