Since Starbound will most likely have a variety of bosses, there's a small chance that you will have a story or an event leading up to facing and/or defeating said boss. Though it is highly unlikely, some bosses might even have personalities that might provoke/entice a player to face and ultimately defeat him/her/it. I will attempt to display some of the possible (though highly unlikely) boss personalities that you may (or may not) find in the starbound universe. Feel free to rate your favorite boss personality that you would most like to face-off against.

The Strong: He may be a clown, he may be a knight, or he may even be a planet-sized entity with multiple parts. However, it is evident that this guy won't go down without a major beating on your part. If you wish to beat him, you will have to take a good amount of beating. In the end, you will have to find the courage within yourself to resist re-spawning when your HP is below negative 52, and punch that sucker right in the epic jaw. You will find yourself to have sweated a whole river after the glorious fight is over, and suddenly finding an excuse not to go to the gym for the next three months.

The Kind: Life isn't always black and white; sometimes, good comes at a cost. Somewhere in the galaxy there lies a treasure for your urgent need, whether it be to save the galaxy, or to sustain a dying cause just a bit longer; however, the removal of that cure would almost guarantee the destruction of a certain localized area. The guardian of this treasure will gladly sacrifice his/her/its own life to prevent you from reaching your supposedly honorable deed. There is no bad guy in this scenario; you are in a match for conviction, and the only way to achieve your kind goal is to slay an innocent being. The battle will test your determination to finish your goal at any cost, even if it means killing anyone that stands in your path.

The Cowardly: He's sly, he plays dirty, and he has a glass jaw that can't take a punch; of course, due to various diplomatic or moral reasons, you kept missing that punch by some reason or another. Of course, you will regret your mishaps when this filthy bastard ends the life of the one you love the most. After traversing over half the galaxy, doing various demeaning and even morally-questionable deeds, you finally come face to face with him once more, only to find him under the protection of an incredibly powerful force. Your anger wells within you as you broke through this arguably "unstoppable" force with much difficulty, only to find this pathetic waste of a man hiding behind an entity with powers far superior than yours. At this point, you will most likely give up every moral fiber and material possession within you just to thrust the weapon of your choice (be it melee or ranged wares; you will literally shove that bazooka up his- never mind.) into the traitorous scum. You would have given up all that once made you in order to deliver this final blow to him; but in the end, it'll be soooo worth it. You may enjoy your flavored drink at this point.

The Godly: Waves of followers surround this arrogant antagonist as he praises himself to be the true religious deity to a group of gullible tribesman. This would not have been a problem had he not enacted laws on this planets so that travelers like you are forced to remain on this planet and act as his work-horse. His blatant lies had convinced the natives to treat you like scum for your disbelief, and forces these people to ignore your logically sound arguments against his rather contradictory claims. Of course, his various acts of baseless laws had caused his own people to be prejudicial against minority groups within this planet, which made it all the more easier for you to form a resistance movement. On one hot and humid day, you sound the horns for revolt, and drones of racially and sexually discriminated honest folks stormed the castle, wiping out his "elite" guards like thin fodder. Before his fall however, the arrogant "deity being" challenges you to a dual, obviously unaware of what you are capable of. With some difficulty, you defeat this self-proclaimed god, and at the same time freeing the entire planet from his tyranny. Though the battle may not be the most intense, you will feel rather satisfied to have defeated a man that built himself up on an utter lie, and fell straight into the pit where he imprisoned those he deemed "unworthy".

The United: While it may be satisfying to see a god-tiered creature fall to its knees, victory would taste even sweeter if all the people you've helped along your journey came to your aid in your final blow against this worthy opponent. She may just be the baker from across the street from where you live, and he may just be the captain of the guard for a small sized town; however, there is something magical to behold, when all of your friends came to you in the final hour of the galaxy, and gave every bit of their power, be it a weapon or life energy from their bodies. The feeling of everyone in the entire game gathering together under your flag, and giving you everything they can afford to you in order to culminate into a final strike simply makes beating that boss all the more thrilling, since you knew that your final attack has the power of the entire universe contained within it. Of course, it could just be the yelling; it's really cool to see everyone somehow shouting the same slogan as all other ambient noises dies down, leaving you to attack the monster with all your might.

The Nemesis: He grew up with you, and throughout most of your adventure in this crazy universe, he tried to keep up with you, and to pose as a constant but rewarding challenge for you. Whenever you set foot into a new and exciting world, his wouldn't be far behind. As you slept through the night, he trained under the moonlight. However, no matter what he does, no matter how much he tries to become just a bit better than you, no matter how he tried to ambush you at your moment of weakness, you will always stay just one step ahead of him, and beat him to the floor with your bare fists. But the tragic moment would come when he was just about to accept the fact that he will never defeat you, yet he was suddenly given a motive to stop you at any cost, right as you were to achieve your ultimate goal. Yep, it's the final fight, you against your nemesis, both fighting for their own moral decisions, be it good or lacking. But in the end, he would fail for the ultimate time, and perish knowing that his sacrifice, though unwilling, would allow the universe to live just a bit more. Well, I suppose the real, truly sad thing about this option is that it was added after the poll was made, and I have no idea how to add that to the poll; therefore, you could never choose this option, even if you pity the fool.

Love the ideas and descriptions, Spike. As I am a fan of any game that can honest-to-God affect me emotionally, I had to choose Coward. Any game that can make you feel grief, anger or sorrow through a well-crafted story (rather than clumsy mechanics or lag :p) is a 10/10 in my book.

You may rage, cry or even weep in defeat as the man you worked so hard to pin down escapes your grasp for the umpteenth time in a row; however, the pain only makes that final blow at the end all the more satisfying.

  19. mo'guts

    mo'guts Big Damn Hero

A strong godlike cowardly type. This boss would be strong once you eventually caught up to them but you would have to deal with waves of their freaky mutated minions first, in order to draw them out of hiding.
perhaps this boss is possessing the planet you are on and you have to find the heart within the planet somewhere, destroy it, then fight the boss in it's spirit form. :ninja:
p.s (i like all the options OP made  )
