What is your biggest fear about Starbound? (Speculations)

I believe he meant much of what is seen in games like Minecraft or Terraria, people who find griefing hilarious, people who spell so badly you spend more time deciphering their post than you do reading the rest of the page, etc etc.

I haven't been part of the community here for long, but from what I've seen of it, it's lovely. Sure there are one or two arguments, but nobody's really unpleasant. It's all tolerance and humour and similarly nice stuff.

Then look at Minecraft's forums, which are - not entirely, of course; maybe not even mostly - angry and petty and generally unkind. You're not allowed to not know things, or be wrong. The difference between there and here is massive and pretty sad.

 

My greatest fear is that I won't be able to drink fine wine or grow a beard/mustache in game.

 

That the gameplay will be too slow as in like playing the first resident evil games. You know just when you move real slow.

 

If I can't randomly say to my friend "LET'S PVP" and then do it on the fly, I will be sad.

 

The difference between here and there is their game is out. Once ours is out... the trash will come.

 

It's kind of disappointing hearing that 90% of the fears is that the community will fall. I was never a part of the MC or Terraria communities, so I wouldn't know.

 

THen again... This community pretty much consists of the people that have time and think it's worth the effort to contribute to it, so generally most of us are here because we want to help and contribute, because the game isn't finished yet. Where as places like minecraft forum already have generated millions of people and sadly people have nothing better to do then troll on forums. Also minecraft place is full of kids that think they know everything plus some so yeah, adversley different.

 

My biggest fear is a lack of direction. I love sandbox games that let me roam around and do as i please, but on the flip side i hate games that dont give me something to do or drive me to do something. I hated minecraft 2 months into the beta when i signed up and couldnt really find anything to do really. Only in multiplayer when we set projects and worked together was it fun. Same with terraria. I disliked the game immensely because i felt the game gave me nothing to do. I know its very weak argument because i like to explore and discover, but i also like being given something to do or accomplish. Its like "too much free time is a bad thing" type deal.

 

A broken storyline that you are forced to follow in a game set in space that doesn't have the creativity it needs.

 

The fear of the community crashing. That's it really.

 

That is exactly how I feel and the main reason I've never gone near Minecraft. Terraria had enough of a structure and sense of progression for me to stay interested (it also helps that it has a simple crafting system rather than that godawful shape crafting system that Minecraft has), and I found I actually enjoy building in a 2D environment.

 

That it'll have memes in it, because memes are terrible. No seriously, don't.

Also that I won't be able to play it right now.

Probably the reason this community is so tame is due to the fact that most of the patient people are here waiting for the game. When the non patient people who are off doing other stuff get the game when it comes out, they will then come here.

 

The community becoing bad is a secondary fear of mine. I like the close knit community with the steady stream of people. Like think of the threads that will probably die because of idiots "trolls". I'm pretty sure the suggestions thread, art, chat, corporations, and fanfict threads will all take a hit from people who like to act like assholes because they can. "Hurr Durr your art is teribad or this sugestn is ratrd" I hate people who act like jerks on the Internet. I'd rather avoid an argument with someone who can't type proper English.

 

Perhaps the admins could create an entire log of all the active member's IPs on this forum, and then all the servers that wanted to could just simply whitelist those IPs?

 

My bad if I got the gender pronoun wrong, but I just assume "he" due to the nature of usernames as being terrible for indicating what gender somebody is unless there is evidence to the contrary. =p
