My biggest fear is Tiy announcing that he now has a kid and can no longer further develop the game.

    Seriously.

My only fear is if they stop updating it. A bit similar to Terraria. Terraria had a lot of potential but I feel like it wasn't fulfilled when they stopped updating it.

They said they'd get a separate team to continue updating it even when they moved on, so no need to worry about this.

My biggest fears are it not giving you the opportunity to be a mad scientist and design your own cool potentially deadly stuff, the online community being filled with asshats, accidentally getting really attached to a "throwaway" planet before it's destroyed, getting addicted to it to the point where It consumes all of my free time and I love my starbound pets more than my real ones, and the release date being pushed back to next summer.

  5. In truth, I'm mixed between the game coming out before or after winter break. No one will get anything done in Ludum Dare if this game is out!

But one of my actual fears is that quests and events will not be so different from each other, or that there are only a few things that can happen. Didn't I just escort a bunch of penguins away from their burning village? Sort of like FTL's limited events.

I fear being able to exploit the mob AI to make the game zero challenge.
Like placing a one block drop in front of doors so that zombies will never break them down in Terraria.

my fear is that this game will have decorative blocks that don't give you any advantage or anything, yet are harder to obtain than any given boss-drops.
i mean, has anyone of you ever tried to get some "chiseled stone brick" in minecraft for a building project? you have to find a jungle temple, which is far from being common, and every jungle temple only yields 3 of those blocks. i can build a house out of massive diamond blocks, but i haven't found any of that stuff yet .
same thing with "glowing mushroom seeds" in terraria. trying to build a giant glowing tree? well, fuck, good luck with farming several dozen hours for those seeds because mushroom grass doesnt spread on the surface. it takes less time grinding to hallowed gear with a fresh character... :lod:

    THIS!
Basically, I started these threads, here: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/various-weapon-qualities.10920/
    and here: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/inspirations-from-metroidvania.10916/
For the sole purpose of trying to create more variety among the randomized weapons and mobs.
If there are 7 different ways to shoot, and 5 different special effects, 3 different types of damage, that makes 105 possible guns. Forget specific stats, types of ammo, appearance, etc... What matters is what makes the weapon really unique. If we got that up to 10 ways to shoot, 7 special effects, and 5 types of damage, that would make 350 possible guns, more than three times as many! Plus, if you could combine different ways to shoot it could open up even more possibilities.
As for mobs, there are only as many unique mobs as there are mob AI scripts. I plan on deconstructing the different attributes of the mobs on my thread and turning them into "mob mods" that could work like the mods on weapons, only for mob AI. That way each world has more varied mob behavior and higher level worlds could have much more complicated mob AI.
It hasn't been easy to keep these two threads on the first pages of their respective categories, and my worst fear is that it will all be for nothing and the weapons and mobs will lack depth and variety in spite of the randomization process. If the procedural generation is only skin deep, it will be the biggest disappointment in a long time.

Well, this isn't Redigit, but he made promises he did not keep for Terraria.
That's the more generalized form of the fear, I think.

My biggest fear currently? That this game will be delayed to the beginning of my next semester at university, and I won't get any time to play it over break.

    Hellgate: London = Titanic.
That is the best metaphor for a game I think I've seen. It fits entirely too well.

I still have my copy of HG:L sitting on my shelf behind me. Of all the games I have ever bought or played that didn't make the cut, it's probably the only one where I don't feel cheated or angry at.

    It's a disappointment, but it isn't rage-inducing. It isn't a bait-and-switch blockbuster hyped to the heavens.
You can see the effort that went into it. This wasn't a game born in a marketing meeting like so many are these days; it was made by people with legitimate ambition.

Starbound is certainly a game with ambition; I don't think it's going to suffer the same fate as HG:L.
If for no other reason than this: There is no managerial mandate; no EA upper management holding a gun to your head and pushing the development schedule up a solid year.
    No shareholders to please.

Terraria was rushed out the door because people were doing illicit Lets Plays of the Alpha, and failed to remain relevant for more than a year because its lead developer had no idea how to manage his product (or didn't care once he made his fortune).

I don't see that happening again.

I'm expecting Starbound to run much smoother than Terraria. The fact that it's being written in C++ rather than C# should help a lot in that regard.

D'awww, now I no longer have any fears of anything else bad that could happen in starbound.

On a side note I'm happy that it can run better, or should at least :p

Care to elaborate? I'm rather curious what sort of community is "hell" to you. I mean, LoL is awfully bad, but it is a completely different type of game.
