Everyone would have to be afraid of that, but I usually stick with my friends and nobody else.
Which makes it less scary in reality, but I still see people in servers freak out. (Not my problem.)

Hmmm hard to say. I suppose my biggest fear is all the hype. Like the videos don't actually convey the game properly like some games in the past. Other then that, I can't think of any real fears for this game.

Honestly, one of my fears is about storage space. The chests in Terraria were way too small, and you had to basically make a massive room just dedicated to storage. In the recent livestream, Tiy showed off some boxes that were called 'storage crates', I think, and they only had 16 slots. :( Hopefully that will be one of the much smaller types of storage blocks.

i could've sworn there were more spaces than 16? you sure it wasn't 32, or like 24? i don't remember the stream in every detail so i don't remember the storage space, but that was space on one item: multiple storage items could have different storage space perhaps?

like a chest has 32, smaller crates have 16 to 20 or so and etc.?

I'll copypasta a few pointers from other peoples comments and comment them a bit further:

I was in Hellgate: London closed alpha, closed beta, open beta and release. I saw the game start out as a gamer's dream. I mean it had everything an ARPG's fan would like to see. EVERYTHING. I followed the game closely from it's release, saw it's promises and also the destruction that followed in the end. What does HG:L teach us? Stuffing everything possible into one game is incredibly difficult, and there is a very high chance it'll end up like Titanic (and you all know how that ended up being). Seeing as Starbound is commonly being hyped as "the game Terraria was supposed to be in the first place", with TONS of new stuff added all the time, I simply can't help but remember HG:L. Every day before I go to sleep I pray to God that this isn't going to be another HG:L. Amen.

Every time I've talked to one of my friends about the qualities of a GOOD game, I bring this up. For me, quality is answering to my needs (expectations), and SURPASSING them. My definition of a classic is this: "A game that offers something new/surprising/exciting every time you play it, no matter how many hours you've spent on it before". Means that there needs to be a plethora of funky items/monsters/areas that are VERY rare (but common enough to see them in the lifetime of a player, meaning no 0.00000001% dropchances diablo III- style. Trading should NOT feel forced). Currently playing Dark Souls and absolutely loving it, a lot thanks to the fact that there's so much stuff in that game that a common player will never see (unless they follow walkthroughs/wikis). Everything needs to be available, but there needs to be a clear progress curve so that the game doesn't just hand out epics straight out of the door. Edit 6: Man putting this into words is hard, I just hope you catch my drift.

Also my first post, yay! (I've been following this for a long time now though.)

I don't really know what to worry about.

-The only community of Starbound I really care about going down the pooper is the modding community, seeing as how I stick to single player or with my close friends
-I don't believe I'll "discover things too fast" like some others say. If everything is as random as the devs say, there'll always be a new plant or monster to discover, a new weapon to collect, new NPC to save, etc. Plus, mods will always add to things to do, as they did with Terraria
-The game all ready surpassed my expectations in nearly every way, so I won't be disappointed.
-I'm a pro procrastinator, I've written 8 page essays the night before they're due. So failing classes is off my worry list.

I guess the only thing I have to worry about is my social life, which will be pretty safe seeing as how 75% of my close friends will be playing with me.

No, everyone does not need to be on the same planet, anyone can go to any planet whenever they want. I can even find an IRC quote if you want.
He is asking if everyone has to be on the same planet at once.

Honestly, the only thing I'm worried about is if they decide not to add an ease-of-access/movement device.
I absolutely hate to rely on makeshift stairs or platforms to move vertically, it's too damn frustrating to be any fun.

Grappling Hook and Jetpack are pretty much the most important items I can think of, and they were the #1 priority every time I've made a fresh Terraria character/world.

  10. Ephexis

    Ephexis Cosmic Narwhal

well it is possible to walk over smoothly-1 block high ledges/slopes
and there are also legit stairs and ladders that you can also walk up or down on smoothly without jumping over everything like in terraria

  11. aerionop

    Irrelevant.

Making it requires time spent placing all that crap, a problem that a simple grapple doesn't have; all terrain is yours to climb on as you please.
No clutter, no crap in your way, no resources thrown out for nothing (not that there would be a lack of resources or anything).

I loved the rocket boots and grappling hooks in Terraria, and there will definitely be in Starbound. Also, it is not irrelevant, as it adds a more fluid and easier climb on natural terrain. All though as always, my entrances to my buildings will only be accesible to things that can fly (At first I just make an underground hatch thing) as I prefer a much safer entrance. Don't like things knocking at my door besides flying eyeballs who have no sense of direction whatsoever.

My fear would be if my computer would be able to run Starbound but at very low fps, then i get obsessed with trying to increase my fps and ending up wasting 3 weeks doing so rather then playing the game o_O, but i doubt that would ever happen....verdad?

  14. Ephexis

    Ephexis Cosmic Narwhal

well you normally won't need to since most of the terraria is goin up or down slopes if you've looked at the few gameplay videos out
your going to be spending lots of time placing all sorts of "crap" since building is a big feature in this game, putting down some stairs isn't really all that much of a chore tbh

point being, a grapple hook shouldn't be mandatory to get around when walking/running/jumping works just fine
but i would like a grapple hook either way, i just don't want it to completely remove the need for general movement like in terraria whereas using the grapple hook will make you wonder how you got by without one

I think that my greatest fear concerning Starbound is that it will not have the same level of re-playability as Terraria. I have spent over 300 hours playing Terraria (Crazy, I know) and I would like to be able to devote my time to Starbound in a similar way. That's all for the moment until I have time to think more about the matter.

In short, my biggest fear is one that has been true very often:

    Over-hyped randomization.

I've rarely seen over-randomization do anything much. Not unlike Borderlands that says we have 1 billion weapons, yeah right, in my mind, there's about 5. Randomization is an additional touch. It doesn't really create content, people know the possibilities and those possibilities are not limitless. That you have to go left or right changes very little in the end.

I've seen the monsters, etc. Same concern. How do they behave? What differentiates them? Its nice that they can have a billion difference appearances, but if it means nothing? If they all feel the same, or if there are so many, there's no identity to the big majority of them, since who meets them anyway?

Randomization is everywhere in Starbound and has never pleased me by itself. I'm -enormously- skeptical about the most loved things in this game that works with randomization.

Don't get me wrong. I really do want it to be awesome, and I believe Tiy and his team can do it.

So it will become a normal game? ALL games stop getting updates at some point so this will happen but it all depends on Tiy He can provide us updates for a Year or 2 or even 5 well maybe 5 is too extreme but EVERY GAME STOPS GETTING UPDATED I know that tiy will hire a small team that will do smaller updates when tiy moves to a diffrent project with his main team. But he won't keep paying them forever so yeah.....

My biggest fear is that as the community becomes bigger, it'll become just like DOTA where no matter what, there's always somebody out there that hates you. That's kind of why I'm a bit reluctant to show my friends in school.

Also, walking on a planet in tall grass and running into a monster that looks like mudkip. I CANT KILL MUDKIP!!!!!
