it seems that people on multiplayer seem to only care about * big sparkly things * and *naked dolls* and i dont know why

when ever i want to join a group or make one and invite people others go *f**k off!* and i dont know why

so please explain to me why people on starbound multiplayer act like they are drunk 24/7. i would like an answer

and no im not a douch who want attention im just a gamer who wants to interact with others and play with other people

Not sure what you mean. Are you making commentary on people behaving like immature trolls or about how defensive people get about grouping? If it's the former, people act like trolls online and sandbox games like this give them a platform. If it's the latter, people can be defensive about inviting other players because the new players can port to their ships and steal their stuff.

    >.> I haven't tried the multiplayer because Minecraft already traumatized me, so I can't comment Starbound specifically.

But, most of the time, if you want to do anything constructive?
It's best to set up a private server with a group of close-nit friends.

^^ best advice ^^ it's what me and my partner do for ourselves and our friends; you don't even really need that great of a computer to host and play if it's just yourself and 3-4 others, and it's fairly simple to set up :)

Yeah, the problem is you're joining public servers where the admins endorse big shiny naked doll things.

Always assume people are going to try and back-stab you.

Wait isn't that the name of a weapon in this game?

Starbound is a platform for self-expression. Take a person who has an immature self, let them express it and you have a colorful (mostly brown) display of personality. Obnoxious songs, spamming player-killing rockets, destroying things, building phallic objects, warping left and right with tech... If you join a server where the staff either...

    A- Don't care

    or

    B- are themselves childish

...you end up with server endorsed stupidity. You need to find a server where the staff are active and don't tolerate trollish behavior.

it's not always as bad as you have experienced

i have played mainly on multiplayer recently and found quite a number of decent people,

lets say if i have met 10 people, 7 of them are really decent, you can go to their ship (assuming you are behaving well, dont break stuff or steal stuf), letting them in your ship without worrying about your stuff disappearing.

the other 3 people would be questionable, i get along with those too (maybe because at that time, my ship was almost empty), but they get into beefing with other players, sometimes i leave the server and come back next day just to hear about stories of "person A tore person B's ship apart".

that results in group splits apart, people who used to play in the same party with me would now say "if he's in the party, dont invite me", or quits party real quick if they see undesired player added to the party. am i as someone caught in the middle have a hard time to decide if i should invite or not.

sometimes this happens from misunderstanding, the recent beefing between person C and D happened because C built a house that looked really like an apex facility underground below my house, person D came and saw it, thought it was a real facility, and started digging down and broke everything, all this happened in maybe a couple seconds, and guess what then happened as person C came back from AFK...?

one thing that annoyed me more is that alot of players have modded op items (not big deal, i mod myself) and cant keep them steathed for more than 5 seconds.

when i have a certain plan for a building, i build it myself cos i dont want others to "contribute" to it which would mess up my design.

and then these players came along, they dont grief, they dont steal (at least not from me), and just hang around while i built, swinging their op weapons, which are loud as hell, and strong as hell, you could dig with some of their weapons.

so i ended up real quick with holes in my house, unwanted decorations because some of them think it would make my house look better, and even painted blocks and walls.

what i would recommend is that you go to a server and observe first, maybe help out some players with some quests, meet them at outpost, see if they are decent people before you go around inviting people.

You have an incredible resource for getting the thing you want - here you are, with like minded individuals, on the official Starbound forums. Maybe make a few friends here, pick a server and roll with it? :)

One thing that can contribute to like-minded individuals playing with you is a format for protection your planet/builds. Since Starbound lacks that... the wrapper StarryPy is a good way to meet up and start group projects. If you can find a server that uses it properly, they could allow you /protection on a planet and you and your friends would be the only ones able to edit there. That kind of thing would foster a communal attitude.

Otherwise, try to find players in the CHAT section, or just hang around General Discussion and read up on some random topics. See who you agree with, or who you think seems reasonably similar to your personality.

    Or just randomly invite people.

People find the MP compatible stuff people make interesting. Unfortunately, a lot of it is sparkly, glowy stuff that I personally find to just be tacky. Each to their own though.

People on Starbound's multiplayer are generally very cautious about grouping as there are a lot of griefers out there, some that just rob everything they can from your ship and some who are more destructive and aim to get access to your ship or planet to destroy it and in some cases even corrupt it. Often it's more productive to just find a planet and let folks know of the co-ordinates.
