What is this?

Alright, I've seen this exact formation many times, across all the sectors, on many planets. Is this something failing to generate, coincidence, what is it?

 

I see a similar thing every time I am playing Starbound, it's always some kind of soft material. I think it happens just for the sake of it happening. Don't really think there is any other explanation.

 

I noticed it happening until I deleted my worlds file and let everything generate from scratch. I kept getting the same weird pillars.

Someone else keeps getting the dirt bikini top...

 

Kind of looks like a rib cage, if you visualize it in 3D. My guess is that it's just a preset terrain formation.

 

Since it's two dimensional AND a cut away view, I always imagine it as walking under and through an arch.

It would be too bad if it is truly nothing.

Did the worlds file get reset with any of the updates? Because I have seen this from the beginning, though have not deleted any but my character files.

Hah, yes! I have thought that. Though, it always looked kind of like a structure that forgot to form so the dirt filled in the dead space within.

 

I think that it's a material called "Sand", but don't hold me to it. I'm not entirely sure. I've heard rumors that it is a soft substance found in biomes called "Deserts"?

 

There are mini-structures defined in the game files like this one.

 

Actually, hilariously enough, this is a Snow Biome planet, Threat Level 10. Terrific for mining top tier ores, especially since the second generated biome on it is desert.

Why is that? (I know pretty much nothing about programming/code). Just a fact of world generation?

 

Maybe this happens because we're traveling to planets close together, thus similar seeds?

 

Not likely. That isn't how seeds work anyways.

Then it's really the problem of the reader, isn't it?
Making his own post exempt from having to be "careful".

 

I laughed at this as it is exactly what someone would probably think if they didn't bother to read what I wrote and instead just looked at the picture posted.
But yes, it does sound like something a 12 year old would say.

 

That's what I'm saying, I'm warning him that is post can be taken different ways. If someone takes it the wrong way... then well... it could be bad.

 

So instead warn the reader instead of him.
I mean, let's be honest: Anything can be twisted and taken in any other way.

It just depends on the reader, which is why I'm only slightly irked that the poster gets warned when there's no sign of repercussions. Just feels as if an intentional bad taste.

 

Getting entirely off topic here but I agree with both Zeklo and Ezic.

People should generally follow the rule of "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Then follow that up by assuming, when something is said questionably, that the person had good intent despite any lack of tact, taste, or etiquette.
