What is the use of Morphball??

Discussion in 'Starbound Discussion' started by Hullaballoo, Jan 9, 2014.

Hullaballoo What do you get if you multiply six by nine?

Maybe I'm missing something or maybe this is a Beta thing and more is coming, but I can't figure out why anyone would want Morphball tech (other than that it's kind of goofy/funny).

I thought, seeing the video, that it would mean I'd either be invulnerable while in ball form, or be able to roll really fast. Turns out you roll slow and things can still hack at you and kill you. So, it seems you're worse off as a ball lol.

    Am I doing it wrong?

    Thanks! :)

Metroid! I've never had that tech, but can't you drop bombs in morphball, like Samus?

It's mostly used to get through small spaces, I think. But yes, you can drop bombs as well while you're a morphball.

You actually pick up speed after you roll for a while. Good on relatively flat surfaces, though they really should improve the jump. You can also leave enemy damaging proximity mines behind, as well as fit through small spaces.

    Very situational, but fun.

It sort of bothered me, the lack of people realizing it's from Metroid. [A friend of mine included.]

How could you not know Metroid.

Since it is already an obvious Metroid thing, they should just expand on it from there... Such as improving the ball form with a chargeable dash, or a super bomb. Make the bombs shoot you into the air if you are in ball form and on top of them when they explode, as well! :rainbow:

Stop pumping me with high expectations D:

This is the ONE piece of tech I've wanted since I heard of it. Currently, my friend and I have a goal to get the Morph Ball before the next wipe.. Though, LoL is kind of severing the time we usually spend in Starbound by a lot.

Everyone can keep the Mech Suit and the Hovering, I want the Morph Ball, dammit!

    That's still something! :D

I mean, seriously, if you haven't played the Metroid games, I'm okay with that because of their age they may not appeal to people.

But holy hell, how many of you never touched Super Smash Bros? I mean, come on. [Unless maybe you wanted to retain your friendships, than I only sort of understand.]

Oh lord... Spitting to much truth.
Memories of friends coming to my house and constantly challenging my Marth till they just burned me out... And still not a damn one of them was able to beat him till maybe a year after we started playing, and then it was only the guy that picked Fox. (Screw Fox.)
    Damn it, SSBM... Damn it.

My brother used to pick Ganondorf and spam the ever-loving shit out of his 'Falcon-Punch'like move. Of course, once we Unlocked Mewtwo, it was over. I found myself a character I could always use to whoop his ass to next week. Then, in SSBB, they added Lucario which was like a substitute for him. Of course, in that game, he played as Pit and spammed the ever-loving shit out of his arrows. Those goddamn arrows. He's the only guy who spammed. Enter the annoyance.

On a side note; Do you.... Do you remember C-Stick guy? Did you have one? The one friend who when you're trying to do shit in the menus would swish his C-Stick around rapidly, tilting the whole goddamn screen with it.

There was this really cool Metroid mod for Terraria that had a morphball. Except in that mod the morphball was able to tunnel through blocks. That made it incredibly useful, where without that ability it's actually kinda pointless. There aren't really any premade morphball-sized tunnels to exploit in this sort of game.

I loved playing Mewtwo as a messing around character, one of the most fun characters to just throw people around with. I never much got into SSB or SSBB, if at all. Coming from a Street Fighter background, SSB was just to slow. SSBB just didn't feel right after riding Melee so hard for so many years. Snake was fun and OP though when we were trying to get into it.

Also, no, I don't think I remember anyone C-Sticking the menus. Seems like grounds for physical punishment. LOL

    You are beyond lucky.

There was much physical punishment for C-Stick guy... but that never stops them.

The rate at which you can drop bombs in morphball form is astoundingly fast. If you get it early, you can do some serious dps by using a macro or just clicking like a madman.
