What is the in-universe explanation for NPC Spawners(at least for now?)

    Just something I'm curious about, since originally the devs seemed to imply that NPCs villagers/crew for our ship/station/homeworld would be recruited or rescued while travelling around the universe(especially with the announcement in the pasts that we could populate/colonizes our designated "homeworld(s)" with such NPCs.

    So I was kind of curious about the nature of NPC spawners. Are they merely a placeholder until more complex systems of recruiting NPCs can be developped, or are they the definitive way of "recruiting" NPCs for our own villages?

    Or instead are they truly a thing of their own, being more like a beacon meant to lure one of the specified NPCs to the requested area, or instead one-shot mini cloning vats literally manufacturing a member of the requested species?

    It's just one of the things I'd been curious about and couldn't help but wonder on the subjct of since I discovered about them in the game. Especially since we haven't heard much official words from the devs of their actual plans on where to take this feature in the game ever since the original announcement so it'd be interesting to know if they truly are an in-universe thing, a placeholder or maybe an intentional scaling down of their original plans for NPCs management(the whole recruit/rescue NPC across the universe to invite them to crew your ship/settle your homeworld from original announcement) decided upon after lenghty reflexions?

    This said it's just curious. On a certain level, I'm jus glad we even -have- this kind of content already in the game.

    It's one of those things. If you need an explanation then you can construct one as you have.

    I am sure more complex systems will begin to form as the game grows in content.

    Personally I build in preparation, so a medical lab gets built and decorated with the doctor spawner placed at the end. So is it a spawner, or a fancy electronic position vacant sign that gets removed when the doctor arrives to take the job?
    Whatever keeps ya playing I suppose

    Well if you check an spawner as a Floran then your char states how good it is that you finally can lure your own kin to your place for a little fee. so...

    on several planets ive explored i have discovered several florans(my race) that are in rooms with no exits and they are guarded usually by mushroom people. seems they may be npcs placed there to be rescued in the future when its fully implemented? i never understood what they were there for until i read your post.

    Actualy, I'd missed that part. And unlike what someone had noted earlier, I hadn't noted the similarities with the ship's teleporters... uh. Thank you for pointing that one out to me!

    Actually, some digging on the net said that the mushrooms apparently uses florans to increases their own numbers by infecting a floran with their spores and turning into more mushroom people as a result >.>;

    This said if NPC rescuing is ever implemented in a future NPC management system as originally announced, this would be a great way of setting up the ground for it.

    The NPC Spawners are like animal traps- they contain delicious food that no NPC can resist. So when you go back to see if they spawned, they actually ate the food was in the Spawner. c:

    The spawners use summoning magic to kidnap some NPC from their home (it also dresses them up in clothes and gives them specific inventories).

    That's why they are always trying to walk out the door, and eventually getting mauled to death by the birds of doom.

    I have a ship customization mod installed, and I temporarily had a door that led outside into space. While I was doing some crafting, 4 of them opened the door and jumped out of the ship. I assume they all burned to nothing on the way down to the planet.
