Also the game can be a failure if the result will make many people to ask for refund. Even if they'll smack their faces into "no refunds" sign.

We still have 5.5 months before the end of the year, no reason to start losing hope for a 2013 release. the whiners need to relax.

So true. The devs seems so obsessed with getting the game polished up and adding useless features, that in the end, we won't play the beta, but the near final version of the game. It seems that they spent WAY too much time on that dumb musical instruments features, and now, that annoying singing crap...omg. We're going to have a game full of bugs, but with stupid pets and dumb singing to make the 13 years old anime fans happy.

I just can't believe that they don't priorise the core features so they can release the beta sooner, and thus get more feedback on bugs, instead of focusing on adding tiered hats, statues and musical stuff.

Look at ARMA 3. The amount of bugs reported by the community, and fixed by the devs is astounishing. The current version of Arma 3 is miles ahead of what the first alpha of ARMA 3 was, 2 months ago, thanks to the community reporting all kind of bugs that the developpers didnt saw. There is a limit of what the developpers can find.

We are not whining, we are scared. Let's say that a lot of people where hyped about a 2012 release (me, and a ton of the first forumers, this forum all started in the very early 2012 or maybe even late late, 2011) Now we were "promised" a 2013 release. If they don't finish the beta by then, it'll be said that a 2014 release is going to happen. But by then we will have waited 2 years for it! the reason the impatience even exists in the early forumers, is because we have been waiting so long. If I had found out about the game this year, i would have a different opinion, because I wouldn't have waited so long, i have faith in the devs that they can finish starbound, but i don't have faith in myself to follow it that long.

I'm not saying the the game will open a portal to the hellish Underverse, allowing the murderous denizens of that foul plane unfettered access to our world. I'm merely asking what if it does?

Do we ask for our money back?

    Simple.
I'll say "Darn, this was looking pretty cool. :c", get a refund, and go back to playing Terraria and awaiting other games.

  7. With games we did not get our hands on yet, we must be very careful about hype and expectations. Because we all know things sometimes work good, other times doesn't.

But there can be things that may fail and frustrate the gaming experience but i see the Team to care about such issues after beta/launch to fix and improve the game to provide the best experience possible. The game is not a failure because the Team failed, it's more because the Community had HUGE expectations, expecting too much than what the team was capable to deliver.

Community is usually the problem in this cases, in this one i see many people seeing starbound as some "huge" thing that will revolutionize the whole "genre", what seems too much for me. :cautious:

I too have been waiting patiently since 2012 for this game to release and have only recently been in the forums. If you're beginning to become impatient, do what I and many others did, and find something to put your time in besides losing faith in a game that has been guaranteed to come out this year.

  9. I'm...not sure why you guys make these "what if" threads. It's almost like you're trying to wind yourselves up? I mean, how do you even answer a "what if" question?
I mean, there are a billion "what ifs". What if someone on the team spontaneously combusts? What if we ALL spontaneously combust? What if we get hacked and the game leaks? What if Big Ape isn't really big? What if a mad scientist clones dinosaurs and the world ends with a catastrophic sharknado-dinohurricane hybrid before Starbound is released?

We tell you all we can about the development process and the game's features. Based on that, you can believe what you'd like as far as how well the game will do once it's released, or how fun it will be, or whether it'll be a glitchy boring failure. A game can "fail" for many reasons, but I think we've got a good grasp on what we're doing. We're going to release the best game we can. :)

I think its because we all LOVE starbound so much, that if it does "fail" then we will be crying for the rest of our lives :p
I JUST CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT!!! *in gollum voice* Mustss haveses the precious, i needses it.. MY PRECIOUS.. Starbound :3

  12. Haha my question was rhetorical too, I guess. I know people wouldn't bother asking questions like this, or posting their concerns, if they weren't excited. ;)

I think this thread is more than just a little bit ridiculous. A handful of people riling each other up because the game is going to be a few months later than their expectations. The devs want to release this game as much as the rest of us; they're not going to just up and disappear when it's this close to completion. And even if a few people decide this isn't the game they wanted it to be, there will be plenty that enjoy it and play the hell out of it. And that is the ultimate goal of the developers. So no, the game won't be a failure. Good day.

What else do you expect a giant forum of zealous fans without an actual game to play to do? Especially those of us without skills. I see some of the community posting suggestions, but the ones that count and get recognized are the ones with a LOT of work put into them (kudos to them). Someone like me who might have time to read a thread here or there, but works full-time and doesn't have the time/patience/skill to put together an awesome suggestion/art/whathaveyouthread can't really contribute much to starbound-society besides opinion. Now, without anything 'physical' (digital) to play around with, all we can voice opinions on are hypotheticals... it's either that or don't say anything while wringing your hands impatiently for the beta! :p

Well, I want it to be a good game, but every update all I see is anime singing and instruments, when what I would really want to see is the game progressing. I know the game is going to be great, but not that great as people expect it to be, so I made this thread, and voiced my opinion on how the game would fail. People on the forums are setting their expectations too high and are starting to think of it as a AAA game, which would end up bad when it isn't as amazing as they thought it would turn out.

Have you only read like two of the updates in the last month, or something?

Addendum: Remember updates posted on the weekends are mostly the fun project ones so they near never mention progress being made.
