One of his streams, like a few weeks ago. I can't tell you exactly which one he said that in because he didn't set up his account to save streams, so sorry about that.

He said it in IRC a week (or so) ago. Didn't think it'd be useful bit of information, so I didn't catch it on screenshot.

EDIT: It was a stream. I remembered wrong.

It happens to all of use, once worded a thread so bad it cause an entire incident. Can't really think of any good realistic what-if's right now.

So you're pretty much admitting that there's a feature creep?

Well, yeah. The release date will "control" the people for a while, but like I said, what if they don't release the Beta/game again? This surely will be worse than launching the game in early 2014.

All we can do is wait and stop making assumptions that will only lead us to panic. :p
Everything will go better than expected.

If starbound is a failure i'll just move on. its just another game on my list of anticipated games, but if its bad, its bad. I'll be very disappointed, but hey Rome 2 is coming out or will be out and im totally stoked for that.

If it fails I'll be sad at first since I've been good and waited. But if it does, it does and I'll just keep playing Don't Starve until I start seeing night hands.

The first thing that came to mind is: why did you even pre-order if you are so doubtful ? Release date is 2013, and there's still plenty of this year to go. Plus, "canceling" the pre-order might actually end up costing them money which is really lame (I don't even want to go into this honestly). And... really ? A more clear indication on how progress is going ? These people are on the forums, on twitter, they have the newsletter, the daily updates, the roadmap. Tell me one other team that does that. It's an ambitious project, and these people seem dedicated to getting it right, I mean, dammit, look at all the features, can you even sum up this game ? No, no you can't. Anyways, it's still 2013, I guess that's my main point. People are hyped up cause they love the idea of the game, but it doesn't need to be rushed. I'm sure the beta/end experience will be amazing.

HUMAN SACFRIFICE!?!? BLASPHEMY! You have to use dwarves covered in steel armor! Send them to the Adamantine Keystone Weapon! Make them LUST for bloodshed!!

Back to the real stuff, I too, have these terrifying thoughts that StarBound will fail. I really want it to come out all golden and beautiful, but as TheTimeLord said, there really isn't a ton of information out there. I'm hoping for a 2013 release, but if that doesn't happen, I dunno if I can follow the game much longer. I got hyped up last year in March when I heard about it, but now, it seems like a big dream. I really want it to come out, but now my enthusiasm is diminishing by the month. I'll probably give it till December 2014, after that, I'm done. PWEASE COME OUT SOOOOOON STARBOUND!!!

Doing this on principle is fine. Do you apply the same standards to everything or are you just trying to make a point?

I was about to bash this thread like Gallagher in watermelon convention...

    Then I thought about it.
What if it is a failure?

Ive been a part of these forums for more than a year. Back when people though Starbound might be released in Dec. Then and now, I think its one of the greatest games of all time. Maybe that just me nerding all over it due to how it looks. How it will play. And how much will be different than most games. It will be on a scale like no other. It will continue like no other. And more than likely it will BE like no other. Talking a bigger hall of famer than Skyrim here.

    But what if it fails?
Well, on the slight chance that its release is horrible. I get into it, expecting the best, and find its horrible. (Again, unlikely) Then ill look to other games that have my interest.

So, if Starbound deos fail. So what? It was a good thing, but not good enough obviously cause it failed. But it wont be a big deal to most.

Just another highly anticipated title driven into the ground.

But that (^THAT^) is HIGHLY unlikely. The game looks too promising and of what they have already showed it appears smooth and stable.
So I will continue to keep Starbound on my "Best of all time" list even before its out. And so should you. At least until YOU have played it.

That is all I have to say on the matter at hand.

You've been waiting since early this year, I on the other hand, have waited more than a year. They told us back then it might be a 2012 release. Was it? No. It wasn't. My hype is running out, I did all my posting last year. I was one of the top suggesters and stuff, but now, you hardly see me on the forums. I love the idea of the game, but an idea is all that we have. What he is saying is that sometimes an awesome looking game, ends up becoming the next dusty thing on the shelf. Look at Spore, it was the new awesome thing for its time, that everyone wanted to buy. Then after a few months, maybe a year, it ended up on my shelf, collecting dust, forgotten. It looked like it was going to be amazing, but then it ended up to be really fun for a while, but there were those game-breaking bugs, graphical errors, and not to mention the ***** creatures everyone made. EA completely forgot about Spore, and never really helped customers recover lost accounts and passwords. I don't think the Starbound devs will forget about us. The lack of a closed beta is what is bringing me down a bit. Beta testers KNOW there are going to be bugs, that is the point. The Starbound devs are trying to make the game gold, without getting the community's input on game mechanics and fighting, and building. Sure, they show us how it works, post pictures, let us suggest stuff, but those suggestions are not based off of game experience. Minecraft made a Classic for people who were interested in the game, to play. Why can't Starbound make a "classic" of its own? I don't want it to sound like I'm rushing the devs, but I have a feeling the people from way back when, are losing hype. (If there are grammatical errors in this post, I'm sorry, I'm just typing out my feelings as fast as possible)

Not heard that myself and this is the only guy who has mentioned it, yet not produced any proof despite being asked several times. So personally I doubt he did. Unless he said it to someone in real life, it would be picked up on and cause a hundred threads to appear raging about it.

Well, the preorder's skyrocketed far beyond the devs expectations and it's similiar to terraria in it's basic formula, but improves on it greatly. I see it as a spiritual successor to terraria, really.

I don't see where it could be a failure.

Unfortunately since Bartwe ask that no one record anything from his streams we will never know if he said that unless Bartwe himself confirms.
