What if Starbound is a failure?

No, I'm not trying to impend doom on this game (I want it to succeed), but let's just discuss how it would be like if Starbound ended up as a glitchy, boring, failure. (Please read the bottom)

I honestly think that this game has a small chance to fail. It's not a bad game, but it's just the... I'm not sure, but the very vague beta and release date stuff. Bartwe has said it would be tricky to release the beta before December, and by that logic, the beta won't probably come out this year, making Starbound come out next year, or worse, 2015. People will get tired of waiting, and start canceling the pre-orders, not wasting their time on "Vaporware", etc. If Starbound was to ever release 2015 the only people willing enough to wait and get their game are the people who are faithful or who say things like "They can take as long as they want" things along that line. If I payed $75 for a pre-order a few months ago, I would more than likely cancel it if I had to wait until late next year or early 2015 to get that game. If there was a more clear indication on how progress is going (not the "final todo list (it’s getting shorter!)" Tiy posted yesterday), like a estimate of how much of the game is done, there would be less people crying over Beta release.

But those are just my thoughts.

    NO FLAMING
Please do not flame, and be respectful to other people's thoughts. It would be great for the devs to see how the community thinks, and end up making a better game overall.

People are just getting spoiled by recent events. Games have been in development longer than Starbound has, while showing less information, without people worrying about them being vaporware.

I truly believe the beta will be out this year. Taken from their word and the content in the latest daily updates, it looks like the game is getting polished. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the game looks ready for beta, but it looks like things are finally starting to get pulled together.

    On the game failing:
I believe if it does (which is very unlikely in my opinion), Tiy would work hard with the community to figure out why it failed and he would work to make the game better. I think he is just that kind of guy; I don't think he would let the game fail.

The reason it feels like it's taking so long is because starbound was found out about way before the devs wanted it to

If that will happen, WE WILL RIP OUT THE TIY'S HEARTH AND SACRIFACE IT TO THE DARK GODS OF CHAOS! And then, we will probably whine on these forums on how we got conned for like a decade...

What if the earth is flat? Pepole will buy it on release anyway and the game will raise good money. It will be a success.

I agree completely if anything from these forums I have learned transparency just leads to more excuses for people to complain and bicker about every single decision the game company makes. If anything they should be less transparent. Also some games take a long time to make. Honestly Op is being as cynical is you can get. I am a cynic as well but when the game fails then it has failed the entire paragraph he presents is all a scenario that has not occurred and is based on zero evidence, op just relax take a deep breath and play another game or read a book or something. Focus on bigger problems like bills or grades that effect you more in the long run.

Worst case scenario - human sacrifice. (Dwarf Fortress community is already getting kind of anxious)
And believe you me when I say that, since it is one of more radical communities out there. (Bay 12 isn't playing around, for we can move mountains and make lava rivers flow through the desolate lands)

Starbound will not be a fail, infact it's in development for not a very long time. Take a look at Duke Nukem Forever. It was developed for 14 (i think) years and turned off to be the massive cock-sucking pile of shit of all time, because the developers changed all the time and they couldn't make a proper game. Tiy, however, is a good developer, with a solid team, and he can make Starbound to be the best sandbox indie ever. He worked on Terraria, and imo it is a masterpiece, so why Starbound would be a failure?...
