Who in God's name actually have 100s of friends?

But anyways, I get the point of wanting to see a server with hundreds of people. The thing is though, no matter what you try, the more people there are, the more unstable and more difficult it becomes to maintain peace and all that good stuff. Maybe the Chucklefish guys could set up "official" servers that requires you to sign up for a list with your official account if you wish to join theirs.

    ...yourself ;)
In total seriousness you could also search for servers that require to be white listed.

But remember kids, admins on servers will usually have top-notch gears, and there will always be that one guy who gets all the cool stuff on the first night.... kinda like this guy, who defeated skeletor with a spear, and proceeded to loot an entire dungeon.

I'm also not fond of invedit programs, but the actual logic behind me disliking them is that they devalue all your hard work by simply getting everything with the click of a button.

I'll still play the game without cheating, but the whole idea of an invedit can ruin the game for you when you work really hard and your friend strolls in and is like 'hey guys, whats up?' and has all the best gear in the game. Pretty much defeats the purpose of even playing at that point.

I really wish they'd do something like trendy.net with a system of characters saved online and those that you can use anywhere or edit them and mess with stuff that way everyone can be happy.

Little kids on Facebook! Hah, just kidding, they really know no one of them personally!

Of course you could just set up a server with tons of players if you, or the one´s who are hosting your server, have good server hardware that can handle with that amount of players. (We need Uncle Scrooge! :gooby:)

Yeah, that would be great! Just let us see what the future brings! ;)

Also what happens if a guy actually found the best weapon and armor in the game legit?
The problem with online games like this is its hard to say unless someone is griefing and editing in tnt to blowup half the world, what someone has honestly found and whats been edited.

Some of those cheaters who ruined your experience could have just been lucky honest players.

Now griefers on the other hand..

  7. I'm sure that's what most people mean.

Example, I was playing Terraria with three friends and we all started this playthrough at the same time. Friend Z pops out for 10 minutes and comes back with Fire Saber and Rocket boots ect. That kills the game for me.

In this game it might be nice though to go to higher threat lvl. planets with someone of a higher tier to escort you, as some clans such as my own, The Mercenary Clan, are banking people would find these services appealing, so maybe Starbound's scaling system will inherently take out some of the threat of exploiters.

There's also the fact that you can choose who you want to play with. I'm sure server host will post rules about their preference on what kind of gameplay is acceptable on their server.

    Play with likeminded people.

Hacks and editors are the main reason I won't be playing online until I have played the game for quite some time. I also don't intend on reading the forums or wiki pages about starbound after the game is released. I want to find everything myself, without anyone's help and without cheating.

Well, it's inevitable that these programs appear, someone is always going to look for a shortcut. It's more about how much you trust your server host, and what their policies are. It's difficult for a game to keep programs like this from appearing without becoming an oppressive force of evil (look at Diablo III). In the end it comes down to the server being responsible, since the most a game developer can really do is slow down the process.

There is a point that has not been raised so far; even with the "best" gear, Starboud is going to be designed (like my favorite games often are) to be challenging at the end even with all that good stuff. The gear is really only a way to build up to the harder worlds, from what we've been told, not a free pass to own everything in sight (like a certain Symphony of the Night I recall).

Plus, I highly doubt people will be able to just run into a world and wreak havok with duked out gear unchecked. You really think the devs aren't considering that? C'mon.

They'll probably make it so you can't bring your gear in every world you enter somehow. They already said in livestream characters won't level, so there ya go. Gear is all they really have to put a control on.

If cheaters want to be cheaters, so be it. if you cheat then Starbound will get very boring very quickly, i dont see the point in doing it, sure, people will do it, but they are just ruining the fun for themselves and others.

I personally don't really care about inventory editors and such, as long as the devs add decent mod/admin commands and make it easy to remove assholes from the server for good.

I really don't think Starbound will have as big of a problem as other games because of the way they're doing the online play. If players can set up their own servers then just find a nice strict server that in monitored by mods/admins and everything will be great. This is also assuming that hosts/mods/admins of the servers will be given commands to kick/ban among other monitoring tools. I'm not sure if this has been addressed.

I think it will be even less of a problem because of the essentially infinite universe. If you really didn't want to be bothered by cheaters, all you have to do is just go to a planet far away where no one will find you. Then you can tell/invite other people you trust to come to the galaxies near you. The "cheaters" will be on their own planets doing their own things.

    really everybody wins

This is a indie company, so piracy will overflow, the servers that will come must be very awake, since hackers WILL come in and ruin it for everyone. You need to be a company like Valve or Riot if you want safe servers.

I don't think we need to worry about hacking in Starbound atleast, in beta, afterall we,(the guys who preordered the game) are way to cool for that... right?

    excuse my bad grammar... PLEASE
