Okay so what i don't want in Starbound are people with inventory editors. seriously in Terria you can just get a inv editor and give your self any weapons and armour which ruin the game for me. i also hope that there wont be the same thing what happened to the game where you can just get a pirated/cracked version of the game and can still go online. looking forward to Starbound to be 100% hack free game C:.

if any one can answer my question will the multiplayer funtion like minecraft enter the server ip and you can join that server or will there be a Lobby Funtion? where you see multiple servers in the lobby. thanks

  2. That will most likely happen, to cheat end-game gear and content. Game is moddable, that will also be.
In public servers that will be mad, but in Servers that demand new-char to play, will not be possible to do such thing, since the server that decides such thing.

Unless they MOD to hack it and servers won't be able to know if a player is generating items o_O

invedits are inevitable, but I believe Tiy said somewhere that they were going to try to take measures against their use

    we'll just have to see

I'm pretty sure you can start a server and have server side character saves, so players can only load the version the server has.

it's up to the server to decide how much cheating there will or won't be

best way to make so Inventory hacks don't work is to make the characters save on the server side rather then on your computer which i hope and believe they will have as an option when you put up your own server

What I don't want is hurricanes... not in game, just in general... hurricanes and spider bears...

  8. Yep, devs have stated that is going to be a server side feature, that should alleviate some of the character trainer stuff that will happen.

Of course it's up to the people who wanna play with people without hacks to encourage the type of people they want to play with and discourage the rest, i.e. Clans patrolling their users ect. I think Clans should honestly put that in their Clan Statement as to whether or not that's gonna be cool with them.

I understand some people like to play that way, but imo it kinda cheapens the experience for me, speaking from experience on this topic.

    LOL
lol i dont want a guy with the most powerful weapon in a game when everyone else has newby guns ><
    thats good.
that would be awesome server sided saves

when you see a guy on a server with the best things it makes you want to also hack.. so if no one hacks you feel like it mobtality ..

  10. With clientside characters, you really can't stop people from cheating.

I think there will be a serverside option, though.

well being a server side option is better then not being one some people will whine about how they cant cheat etc.

    Pentarctagon Over 9000!!!

It was that person's choice to give themselves items, and it is also your choice whether or not to do the same. Don't blame your choices on what other people do.

Either way, its up to the server whether to have server-side characters or not, so there isn't really a problem.

  13. Servers that have serverside characters probably won't allow clientside ones, it'll be a server setting only adjustable by the admin if it's in the game.

I thought cheating was up to the individual.

So, from what I'm seeing here, people seem to think that cheaters are worse than griefers? What is wrong with you people? Someone wants to cut out the middle man, and get all the cool stuff early, why should it matter? Are they ruining their experience? Possibly. All that matters is that you control your own server, or make sure someone else does.
Someone playing a character with endgame items on a newbie server?
Step 1: Ask politely if they'll log out, and create a character.
Step 2: If they don't obey, kick them.
Step 3: If they log back in with the same character, ban them.
    Simple as that.

I'd rather have a griefer than someone noclipping through the entire map killing everyone without giving them a chance to fight back or destroying the landscape by dropping a billion explosives with the click of a button, but this is not that kind of cheating...

Look, character data need to be stored somewhere, so the character can be loaded later. In single player they can only be stored in the machine you are playing, allowing you to modify the saved data, editing the amount of pixels, weapons, armors... There's no way to fully stop it, as data needs to be saved and loaded. On the other hand, servers could store character data in the machine the server is running, that's it, server side. As the player doesn't have access to it, it can't modify it, so it essentially stops inventory editing, like in minecraft.

I don´t think that you have hundreds of friends that will play Starbound, are you?

I think it´s just great that you could set up a server that can stand hundreds of people, but you´ll rarely set eyes on one of them. But you can chat with them, tell them what you´re doing, invite them out to a dinner in your spaceship etc.! It´s just a great and wonderful aspect of the game I don´t want to miss!
So I hope server hosters get the option, to prevent people using Invedits and stuff...
