so after spending the whole game being a survivor and hero to your allies...

you become the dreaded villain of someone elses game?

An end-of-game scenario wouldn't be a good type of thing for a free-roam do what you want game like Starbound. Maybe a final boss, but not something that ends the game.

As long as the game doesn't end, an ending is fine. It needs to be an ending that lets you keep playing. Nothing pisses me off more than a nice open world, and then when you beat the game it throws you back on the menu.

Making an ending like "everyone dies" or "you die", is the #1 thing that would take my massive hype for Starbound and make me not even want to play it. I want a game I can spend thousands of hours exploring, building, fighting, having fun, etc. I don't want to have to choose to beat the game or keep playing.

On the positive side, an ending that actually unlocks certain things is always welcome. You beat the game, and that's what gives you access to those higher level planets. So hard, that they are optional.

I have a feeling that this is exactly what we have to expect from Starbound. :)

Of course, 100% speculations, but the devs are so awesome that they can only do awesome stuff. In all logic.

Well, if there is anyone want altered the ending into like freaking 3-10 different ending, that would be overly insane. For the truth, lets not talk about the ending of all the games. Just like "Elder Scrolls" games, the games keep on going and going until someone die in the development or the main person who created all first and to the end of games of that. Which it seems to be we people doesn't like things end so fast like minecraft.

I just plain simply better get to annihilate the 'Unknown Invaders' & avenge the fallen innocent people of the Home World. :sparta:

Here's to hoping the 'Unknown Invaders' are evil & deserving that annihilation! :viking:

I agree on not wanting a "Player has no choice but to die" Ending as well... but I can't imagine it happening... in this kinda game, such an ending is against the fun design of the game & would be more than senseless... it would also be logicless. :yoda:

Those endings upset me a lot.
To date I have never ended the main quest of Fallout 3, nor have I gotten the DLC that patches the end.
I let it sit there in shame with over 100 hours a great deal of playtime logged.
I could easily do it again. I feel no mercy for such games, despite how enjoyable they are otherwise.

So, I'm guessing that you may never be able to find whatever destroyed your home planet, or at least until you've explored enough planets perhaps? If so, that's good enough for me! If there actually is an ending, you should be able to go back to exploring planets and other things right after it though, as to not stop the flow of the game too much.

Why are people all like, Oh, it shouldn't have an ending, bluh bluh bluh. If starbound DIDN'T have an edning, I'd be really upset, the end of games are alway the most satisfing things in the world, but see with starbound, it DOES have a main storyline. After the main ending, the game will still go on.

You might want to delete one of the duplicate posts... I agree with what you said; I personally believe that Starbound should have an ending, and that you should be able to continue playing as usual afterwards (like you said :X).

People are so silly thinking that the game will end as soon as the main quest ends the game will continue on Tiy stated somewhere but I'm too lazy to go look for it:zombie:

I'm guessing if there was an ending, it'd be like Minecraft's End, where you beat a final boss, and you can still keep playing. Now I'm not saying there has to be a final boss, which is very overused and generic...

Minecraft actually has another End boss being constructed...
scared the sh*t outta me when I saw him.

    Yes. My ending.

This is actually what I see happening, no "LOL U DIE" ending, more "you solved all our problems! Yaaay! Heres the technology for you to be able to travel to EVEN HARDER PLANETS. Have fun = w=~ "

You lose your ship, equipment and memories. You wake up on a planet with only the clothes on your back. There is a generic looking man walking about. You speak with him. He replies "You should stay indoors at night. It is very dangerous to be wandering around int he dark." Your copy of Starbound is deleted and replaced with Terraria.

I think this'll only happen in Pirated Versions of Starbound. Legit Buyers need not worry. :p

:giggle: This kinda Anti-Piracy Measure can be so fun! Reminds me of some kinda Anti-Piracy invincible Pink Scorpion Monster thing I read about in a GameInformer Article once. Shame I don't have the Link.

in some programs, pirating can lead to copies that have codes in them to tear down your computer...
in other programs, pirating can lead to having an epic adventure... that turns out to have been a dream.

You find out that [Person who helped you at the beginning] is actually evil, and takes [Person of your opposite sex that you really familiarize with] with him/her as a hostage and demands your ship.

You obviously do not have a choice (how would it work in co-op anyways?) and try to find your loved one.
An NPC tells you that he/she is held captive in a Clockwork level 100 Planet, and you need to gear up before going there by doing some sidequests / exploring / whatever.

You go there, you save your loved one by defeating a boss or whatever, and find that [Person who helped you at the beginning and is a traitor] was brain-washed by a huge creature who wanted from the beginning to make you powerful and conduct you there. This creature is not evil, but you'll need to sacrifice one of your crew members (the important ones in your starship) in order to obtain energy.

You choose the member to sacrifice, go to a room and get to choose between different categories of rewards. A room full of firearms, a room full of Pixels, a room full of melee weapons... you get the idea.

You choose one, get the reward, and teleport back to your ship where you have a long dialogue with your loved one about what happened.

    Credits roll.
