one that isn't patched by DLC afterwards due to customer complaints...

but no, the only "ending" that could be achieved in Starbound would be the Storyline ending, where the villain you've hunted across 110 star-systems gets his head torn apart by a meteor that is actually a donut (frozen by space) that ironically enough came from a planet he blew up over 50 star-systems ago.

Oddly enough, I still play Terraria to this day despite lack of updates, but I couldnt even be bothered to touch Minecraft. Minecraft has very seldom updates, and when they do, it is just a couple of items that add no new content to the game worth more than a quick glance. As for the idea of an end game though, I think I would like a finale to the main questline. I have been hoping for a central alien force that poses an imminent threat throughout the game, but you make no contact till really late. Id like this sort of enemy to exist, and the finale to be an assault on a planet they took over to use as a breeding ground. This would make my day.

IF it had an ending (and it does have a story, so it likely will have some kind) I want a final boss fight, a hint of all the things in the world left to do, and an opening of my dark, powerfull things. basicly I want the game to get way harde rafter the "ending"

I want a boss guarding a giant tower that you must destroy to add something interesting into the world, and end the general story.

I don't really want it to have an ending. Though maybe the can put an end to the main quests but you can still do side quests?

I don't know. I'm torn between "final boss", and "destroy an entire race" choices. Then again, we could just have both. Whatever the ending is, I just hope it's bitter sweet. Not enough bittersweet endings in this medium.

    Examples of bittersweet endings:
"destroy an entire race" ending. Reason: If you really stop and think about that, even the destruction of what is made out to be a completely malevolent race is still a terrible, horrific event.

"final boss" ending. Reason: If something is large enough and destructive enough to constitute a "final boss" in the traditional sense, the bitter to your sweet can come when you look back from destroying the Doomship 4K(or whatever the crap the boss is), and see that your entire world (and by that, I mean all planets in the immediate area and all other things (space stations, ships, etc.)) is devastated. And then you pretty much start over without a story, and with different parameters to survival and gameplay. Maybe even at this point unlocking an option for when you start a new character to skip the story and straight to popping up on some randomly generated planet and let loose at the word go.

Yes, firing all the bullets does seem like a good idea. Also when I read this post it only had this line, and then it had your edit when I used the quote and I got confused, so I'm just putting this part.
The idea of a "bittersweet" ending is interesting sounding in thought but then when you do it, it's like choosing in a game to murder someone in the middle of the street or to walk off, but yet you want to kill them because the tried to kill you but then when you do, you feel something, like you shouldn't have done it.

starbound is gonna have a story so probobaly and ending too and i want the ending to be you finally finding the enemy planet (the guys that destroyed your planet) and then going into the city with mission to exterminate every enemy alien (EVEN THE CIVILIANS MUAHAHAH) you blow up whole cities with laser cannons bombing runs airstrikes etc or by just going with a sword and slashing them all after that the aliens call for their space fleet which comes and you have to fight couple of big spaceships (they are like bosses) after you defeat them the Leader of the aliens comes with his remaining forces to make last ditch effort to stop you. After a long battle you finally kill everyone but then the leader of the aliens goes inside a mech so you of course nuke the hell out of it (lol) and after the mech is destroyed the leader comes out of it heavily wounded and he asks for mercy you have 4 options 1st one is to kill him 2nd is to inprison him 3rd one is to inpersonate him to act as the new leader of the alien planet. If you pick the first option you will have 4 more options 1st Blow up the entire planet. 2nd. Enslave all the population of that planet. 3rd. massacre the rest of the population and make this alien race extinct. 4th Leave it alone and go back to your station.

Well that was a long ending ^^ but i would want that :)

i would love if there was some time travel and weird shit and it all went back to the beginning something like you saved yourself from the explosion that killed your planet. id just love when in movies all about time travel it all works out like that (like doctor who ESPECIALLY DOCTOR WHO)

I want it to be I found the person who destroyed your planet and find out it was somebody close to you back on your planet. After that you end up dueling him/her to the death near in some sort of giant place you could fall off.
He disarms you and he has his back to the cliff.
And you charge off with him/her saving the universe from the menace but also sacrificing yourself.

Here the ending I want to see:

You just beaten the main quest(saving the universe or killing the super-pirate
or conquered 1000 planets or something else), everyone is happy, you say "Its time I go back
to my homeworld", you see a cinematic of your spacecraft going towards your homeworld, victory music start
and credits roll, The End.................. !

you hear "Alert!, Alert!, we are being atacked by unknown entity" I say "How can this be we already saved
our homeworld before "the big mess(the main quest)" occured, at this rate we won't be able to survive, let's
go get some reinforcement(go back to space station)".

Now you are in your space station and you need to make missile and a bunch of other stuff to get past the enemy defense line
and you can now decided to attack your homeworld(only the enemy) and its a threat level 101 planet.
Once you reach the surface of the planet you have to chased(read kill) the bad guys, after you managed to do it
you learn that the enemy you fought were only a small group of those bad guys and you also get coordinates to
an other planet which will also be threat 101.

From that point, those planets with threat level of 101 or more will always give new coordinates when conquered that will
be for a planet with the same threat level, but it will also be possible to get in a random loot chest(only one per planet) coordinates to
a threatlevel 102 planet until you reach 110(to finish the optional end game quest that started in your homeworld).

just to be clear that mean:
    - threat level 101: always new threat level 101 coordinates when conquered and in only 1 random loot chest in the world a set
of coordinates for for threat level 102 planet
    etc...
    - Once you reach threat level 110, you would be able to finish the end game optional quest by obliterating the enemy
homeworld, (super spoiler: the entire quest would be set up to make it look like your destroying the homeworld
of an other player or if you prefer, a AI controlled homeworld

Once this is done you learn that many other races of peoples might be as dangerous as them and you can continue to fight them.

    other detail about my idea:
    - Threat level 101 to 110 will have news loots
    - on your threat level 101 homeworld, there won't be any threat level 101 loots
    - (probably more important details, but I can't think of more)

Crazy(read probably impossible) idea that related to all that:
    - Player could submit to starbound staffs their homeworld(the most dangerous one they have)
    - those homeworlds would be tested to see if they "qualify" to become threat level 110 world and
than add to starbound patch and from that point on it would be possible(maybe rare) to find their coordinates
in random loot chest on hard enough planet.
    - These homeworld would have threat level 110 mobs.
