finish the main-quest line, and a nice image of a spaceship flying back home, where you keep going on your adventure.

My brain can not compute a ending for a game like Starbound.

there are story line quests so why not an ending? it would screw things up if the story just stops somewhere...

Well, story surely has to end somewhere, but it doesn't mean you can't become a space pirate or whatever after that. I think it would be cool if at the ending you were given a very small bomb capable of destroying the whole Universe. Then you could decide to use it, or just put the most dangerous item in the galaxy on your shelf and play on.

What ending I would want? none. It will never end, that's the point. The torture and the pain will never go away, you can never achieve freedom. You will NEVER stop playing that game. It's all hopeless! :DD

uhm, what? end-game that i couldn't play afterwards, what is this fallout 3? :lod:

i wouldn't want the end game to be something that i can't play afterwards, if it is something like that(which i doubt) then i want to be able to go into NG+ and continue playing

actually, a NG+ feature with or without a playable end game sounds like a good idea to me: once players finish the main story and have it as an option to select when the player chooses

    that's just my opinion though

With various endings depending on your action's.

    Good ending: No ending
    Bad ending: No ending
    Neutral ending: No ending
The game goes on forever, because you go back to the start to ward off the enemies that destroyed your home in the first place, then you explore the fresh galaxy! (planets etc. are reset.) Nobody knows of you, you can find more of your own species, special items for your species and so on.

My ship is on fire, I just pushed my remaining crew into the only working escape pod. I bust out some epic music, then set my course for the alien mother-ship.
Then go out like a bad-ass.

I don't dislike your idea, but Tiy already stated that there would be story-based missions as well as random missions. One would guess that the "story" is not endless and, thus, has an ending. Seems logic to me. Of course, Starbound certainly isn't a game focused on a scenaristic experience so I guess it'd be safe to assume that once you have completed the story missions (which, I guess, will take the form of some rich and enjoyable tutorial and give a bunch of nice loot you couldn't find any other way, but then again it's pure speculations) you can just continue your character like nothing ever happened even though you alone genocided that alien species that wanted to take over the entire universe. o.o
