I've asked this in the main thread of the FAQ topic, but I figured starting a thread will get more attention(please forgive my forum noobness).

What is your vision on how players would chose a planet to be their homeworld? Would there be more to it than just the overal look of the planet itself or is there more to it?

for me it comes down to one thing if i cant change it after i pick my homeworld then im gonna hold off for a while to see if i find a world thats interesting enough for me to want to hang around.

if i can change my homeworld at will then itd probably be the first place i can find with resources i need at the time sad but utilitarian

You don't get to choose, it's coordinates, which are randomly generated and CAN be shared ;) So basically like Minecraft seeds!

dont you have to actively select a planet to be your homeworld rather than just typing in a coordinate and praying for the best? i hope so as then you actually have a chioice instead of having to spam through however many games/coords to find something you like

It depends, but I think I will choose a planet that looks good and has some theme I like.

I guess my question was more directed to the designers of the game to ask: "Will there be more to picking a home planet than just Look and Theme?" I would be curious to see what other element they could add to this equasion.

If I really like a planet I've visited and explored, and called it planet Bananas!:
In my point of view, these are the questions I'd ask to come to a conclusion:
    • Is Bananas! peaceful and suitable for settlement?
    • Are there ravenous mutants who come out every day to kill Npcs?
    • Are there nice and interesting landscapes I could enjoy aesthetically?
    • Why are there so many banana trees on planet Bananas!?
Oh well, I love the nice flat plains and mutant banana trees so I'll choose this as my home world.

Personally, I would want a planet much like earth (call me nostalgic, I happen to enjoy this piece of rock) settle in a lush green area, dig me a lovely lake and build me a wooden house next to it. I would of course build a huge underground lair for my real home, but its always nice to sit on my porch, looking out on the beautiful environment and watching over all my Penguin minions.

I'd love to live on bananas, only if there is coffee too!

I like snowy environments, so I'd pick a snowy planet :)
as long as the music isn't melacholic and sad....

i want more of a relaxing ambient music, like this:

if we have the option to customize the ambient music, then nvm, snowy planet for sure! :giggle:

i want a very volatile planet so i can terraform it. It's always nice to live on a planet that you made habitable :p

Yeah, I'm the same way. It seems more fun to me to go that route, well, assuming it's possible, I'm not sure what the options will be.

agree. Depending on what the choices are i would want one of the "harder" planets. Somewhere that most people would look at and just say no to. that way when/if you do make it a nice place you feel like you did something and maybe even have a little bragging rights.

Personally. I'd live in a lava/underwold planet, Similar to the Kleer planet in Serious Sam 2 :D
And for background music i'd most likely have Heavy-Death metal playing \m/ >_< \m/

    :p

I think I'd pick a terribly oppressive planet and terraform it to perfection, but only half. That way I can say "Hey, go and see what this place used to look like."
I'd keep the good half oppressive of course, but instead of an oppressive environment, I would rule my minions with an oppressive tyranny. Iron fist and all that.

That sounds fun. Though I might alternatively find a peaceful planet to live on, but if I could, I would terraform certain areas to be more hostile, create arenas, just have more environments, etc.

I would find a planet that had a very deep ocean, but also have high peaks (hopefully I will succeed in finding one,) and have a peaceful society, but, have a power army hiding under the veil of being a happy friendly place to live if there was ever a threat.

Variety being the spice of life, I'll be looking for something with solid variation in biomes vs one prevailing theme. I just like being able to combine various elements into a synergistic style base.

I'd probably want a slightly hostile, barren planet. Build a big dome thing and I'm good to go!

Alternatively, a nice, comfortable planet so that I can build an awesome floating city.

  20. Pentarctagon

    Pentarctagon Over 9000!!!

A planet with lots of resources, so I can make it into whatever I want relatively easily.
