What does one do when they become stranded? (If it is even possible)

I'm just curious, surely coal and other fuel sources are limited. Even with the recent addition that added the ability to transport to your home planet from anywhere from your ship, fuel sources are limited i'm sure.

Some could argue that it's the players fault for becoming stranded, or that you could just go to multiplayer to get some fuel. But let's say theoretically, you FULLY ran out of fuel, nothing on the two planets you have access to (one if your ship is above your home planet.)

Never happened to me, it may be rare, but surely it's possible. Just curious; Please leave your thoughts/solutions.

you can make 1 coal out of 10 wood. So, unlikely to happen, unless you desperately destroy all trees without replanting for some reason. Besides, even the smallest world has so much mass that you need weeks RL to hunt downa nd get rid of all existing coal veins.

Could plant/harvest trees and smelt them into coal I suppose. Would be time consuming but possible. All you'd need is to find one tree or have a single sapling in your inventory to work.

I was stranded on a moon for a good two hours dying over and over agaein until I gathered enough fuel to leave. (no nearby planets)

Early on you can be delayed, but I would say it's very difficult to actually be stranded anywhere.

    Measure twice, cut once.

That's the kind of thing that'd be good to prevent happening, i'm sure quite a few people don't want to spend two hours mining for coal. It is fairly common, and yes i understand that you do HAVE to mine it at some point, removing fuel as a whole is rather silly, it is a good concept.

You are correct, just theoretically if you know what i mean. It's difficult but it's still possible.(?)

I would say it would almost have to be intentional, a challenge to see IF you can really escape from nothing, but I suppose that's exactly how the game begins; stranded.
The cost of system travel is purposely prohibitive towards early users to thwart too much jumping around before we begin to establish serious fuel stockpiles and a better understanding of resource management within the game.

Fair enough, it would have to be intentional with the amount of resources on a single planet. Plus multiplayer is a psuedo-solution to being stranded.
Curious if it has actually happened to anyone aswell.

If you've dug out every piece of fuel ore on the planet and used it, and you've chopped every tree and used it (and either destroyed or lost the saplings), and your ship is still at zero fuel, that's when you cheat.

In the early game, it is easy to feel stuck on a planet, but as others have said, you have to go a bit out of the way to find yourself in this position. For instance, choosing a super small planet with no additional moons when you jump from sector A to B. Remember that it only costs 1 fuel ( i.e. 1 coal or 10 wood) to jump to other moons near your current planet and 50 fuel (i.e. 25 coal or 250 wood) to jump to other planets orbiting the same sun as your current planet. Thus, to get stuck with the maximum 200 fuel jump cost, you would have to choose a star system with one planet with no moons or a gas giant with one moon. Otherwise, you have a spectrum of fuel costs to get off your current planet.

It would be ridiculously hard to do. You'd have to spend weeks mining out your planet, then throw away all your hundreds of stacks of coal, wood, and seeds. At that point you could either delete your planet, join a multiplayer game to mine, or create a second character and have them drop supplies on the planet.

I feel truly sorry for the poor person who gets stuck on an airless moon with no fuel.

    Try getting coal while suffocating!

  14. What I usually do now when starting a new character is to make an axe & pickaxe first thing, then chop down every tree, vine and dig up every coal you see as you make your way around the entier planet. It really isn't that difficult to survive and make your way around the planet especially when you make bandages if you play smart and know when to pick and choose your battles. Once you've done that you should have 1000+ wood and a good amount of coal. smelt all of the wood into coal and add it all as fuel, then find a neighboring system that has lot of planets, and a group that consists of 4-5 planets of different kinds, fly over there and then start mining for ores etc.

    You will never get stuck.

I think it would be a brilliant project for a huge multiplayer server to descend upon a tiny world and attempt to mine out the ENTIRE WORLD. Including the background. And the lava. NOW you're really stranded!

It takes real effort to permanently strand yourself.

If the ship drive could be fueled with pixels, it would be nigh impossible.

Using pixels as fuel, that's actually a good recommendation.

Every planet has enemies that respawn, and pixels drop pretty often. Perhaps 100/50 pixels to every 1 fuel?

I won't turn this into a suggestions thread...

This is basically the spawn planet of every bad public server. I have seen some servers that have just a pad for the teleport and nothing else on their spawn planet.

I think an interesting mechanic that could be implemented would be a space tow service that would only be available if you had aboslutley no fuel sources, tree seeds,, and no trees in the growing state inthe planet you're orbiting. Also the tow service can only take you to the nearest breathable planet.
