What does it say about Starbound

That it can stay in the top 10 sales positions on Steam during the Winter Holiday sale? Despite it not being on sale, and still being in "Early Access"?

 

It says that chucklefish is not going bankrupt any time soon.

Hell, on the 4th of december, there was 95,000 backers from the pre-order page (non-steam).

And now, there's 175, 000 backers, in the span of 2 weeks! I don't know if it counts the ones purchased on steam, though.

 

It's a fantastic game at a great price and people would be silly not to get it now as it's only going to go up in price.

This is interesting as well. Especially since only a few days back it was the third or fourth most played game with 77000 daily peak players!

 

I was actually really surprised to see starbound being #1 for so long and now it still holds in top 10 even during winter sales, that's pretty ridiculous.
Chucklefish deserves it, this game is really awesome even this early in Beta.

No it isn't. This is final, full price. This isn't like Minecraft where they plan on charging like 3~4x more for the final product.

It's also not even remotely worth the money at the moment considering all the complaints it gets and severe lack of any content whatsoever. I'd actually recommend people wait till full release before buying it since it isn't on sale. Buying Starbound now is like buying a console on release day: It's not worth it. You pay for literally nothing. I'm here because I'm a legitimate beta tester and I provide honest feedback.

Also, to OP: Being on Early Access doesn't mean anything. You'd be shocked (though shouldn't be) of how many people apply for betas and whatnot and expect to play a finished product. Why do you think there are so many ridiculous threads here everyday? A lot of them are coming from people who are expecting more than what is currently available.

My Steam library says I played 50 hours of Starbound..
That's much more then most single player games which cost at least twice as much.

Notice that our highest peak numbers are comparable to that of CS:GO. That's rather impressive for a variety of reasons. It's going to be interesting to see what happens once this game gets actual content, a stable and situated multiplayer community and better server/client modding support. The potential for longevity is insane.

Keeping a server up all the time doesn't count.

 

It says the game built up a lot of hype through the Terraria community, and since the game looks and feels almost the same, well there are no shockers there... But then you have the fact that the game is actually fun, even in this early Beta, and that definitely helps

As for the person saying the game is not worth it at its current state, I'm with captain kid on this one. I've put 149 hours total into Starbound and already got my moneys worth out of it, many times over. Though I agree that there's a ton of people that are buying the game expecting it to be a full finished product, and those are the people that can honestly (though wrongfully) say the game is not yet worth it. As for the rest of the people who understand what a Beta (an early one at that) is, the game is very much worth the money because even though a ton of content is still missing from the game, there is enough content to have you playing for way longer than the average single player game nowadays, and fixes and even more content is being added as we speak.

I don't mean to overstep but that isn't the players fault really

every game released these days for the pc is in "beta" when it comes out and most of them never leave "beta" because the distributors don't want any responsibility and don't want to be accountable for releasing a final product that has issues that they will then have to fix for no profit

most people/gamers don't realize what real beta and alpah stage games really are ( which is to say unfinished products that still require lots of work to be what most games that call themselves "betas" are )

 

Actually could have sworn that yes they where going to raise the price once beta ended. I maybe mistaken but I keep remembering reading that somewhere. Also nothing is really subjective. The first three tiers are playable - the rest roughly testable. Its still a fairly decent sandbox with more going for it then minecraft had on public release. Its fantastic if you just enjoy building things... or rough exploration, and so on.

 

you are wrong, i dont have the link, but it was said that pre-ordering the game gets you beta access and a cheaper price...and also, the game is more than worth it, i clocked in 117hrs already, thats WAY more than any other games ever "except Don't Starve, at 486hrs" and it's only 1/4 of the price of full games prices.

Do you have a job?
Do you study?
What do you do?
Do you do ANYTHING at all?

 

Well then. I have about 127 clocked and a good deal of that is me neglecting to shut down my personal server, or leaving it up for people to play on.
