That is what techs are for, althrough they give more interesting effects, and they could (Think about things such as a teleportation tech that can be used to teleport anywhere on the screen for only 20 Energy, with a very short recoil, but that damages you if you teleport into a wall, for example).
You can easily find out of you take damage, and, even then, you should just plain dodge it, no matter how much damage it deals.

I would like to see an additional passive tech slot for attributes since that would be more lore friendly maybe? Or new ones for the existing slots that act similar like maybe a resistance one so I hold F to double my defense and it consumes it when in use. But I guess I will have to make use with what I got. but I hope there would be more techs or a new tech slot.

What I think Starbound lacks the most is somekind of time consuming, progression-driven end-game. Right now at some point after gathering decent resources and getting good items/building a big ship/colony there's just not much else to do. Exploring gets dull & "pointless" after 30~ planets or so.

Ship combat, interacting with other colonies with your own (politics, trade, wars etc), story/lore-driven end-game content (bosses, dungeons & "gauntlets"), harder missions that are less about finding a RNG item but still a challenge and so on.

OH OH OH I GOT ONE.
The quest system, the quest system currently and how it all plays out is horrible to me and sometimes makes me not even want to play the game.

The severe lack of variety in biomes and planets in a game based around universal exploration. :wut: Already bored with the current biomes/planets, including underground biomes/mini dungeons. Oh and the severe lack of variety in dungeon types.

pigy wont leave my ship(i want to choose my pet)
    qusets feels dum
dying(not the respawn animaton thats cool)
i run out of things to do when i don't wont too do quset or grinde for tier or build stuff or explore
not enough qusets also no choices in qusets
i don't like the set tier system
bags get to fast full(your characther must be the strongest person in the galaxy)
npcs lack souls(they are too random also they always just repeat everthing they say at least give them a second message to say afther the first one also it would be cool if they reacted to more things in the game not just being attacked maybe what you are wearing or if you steal form them or if you have don a quset etc)
the oxsigen tech is to overpowerd in the begining
no space stations(i like the ruins but i don't like that thats the only thing)
i always feel like the game are missing something

I dislike the lag... the bloody lag that seems to put enemies into stasis and suddely recieve all dmg I might have done in one single tick... it doesnt happen often, but its SO annoying when you are in a dungeon and enemies freeze mid air or stand still while you are whacking at em

    I dislike:

No varied temperature variation and heat sources.
    No hunger
Inability to construct most blocks from gatherable materials.
No point in building structures except to show off. I.E. "tower defense" "base defense". I want to see terraria style nights on planets, where all the monsters start swarming towards me from both sides off the screen and I need to excape/defend/wait out in a dirt hole until morning.
Tech upgrades instead of limited Survival gear. (I want to need to wear a space suit on a moon, a hazmat suit on toxic planets, and need to perform regular maintenence, IE like warmth, in order to go very far.
Losing my pig-nite grenade launcher and bouncing bullet Sniper Rifle when they updated weapons.
Coal, wood and other fuel sources disabled from use for ship fuel since long ago beta.
    Empty asteroid fields.
Constant acid Rain and no gear to mitigate it.
Inability to build ship using blocks.
Set planet tiers (forest biome is always forest biome difficulty which is always lower than jungle difficulty).
    So few exotic planet types.
Tier locking (I got to have X armor in order to access Y quest, which is required before I can find Z ore material)
    Unrepairable pickaxes.
Can't work my way up from a stone-age tier.
Steel requiring oil rather than coal, and then later copper instead of oil. Steel should use coal and oil as separate recipes. Copper for some other special space metal (brass, ect)
Uselessness of coal, in spite of being, everywhere.
    Uselessness of most quest rewards.
Super availability of rare items at higher tiers. (Manipulator modules, tech cards, teleporter cores, ect.)
    Lack of variety of moons.
So few curious landscape features on planets with them in the background. (spiral rocks, pillars, ice slabs, etc.)
guns only requiring energy instead of craftable ammo.
    Can't Creature Capture flying creatures.

Among other things which may be listed here later

What I hate most? I hate the forced pacing.

There are times I want to step aside and explore. Other times I simply want to push forward to the next tier (so to speak). Not really a fan of having to do x task to go to x boss (instance or mob) to progress to the next stage. I do understand it is to help keep someone from attempting a fight in starter clothing. But still... ._.

The current state of asteroid fields. They used to be densely populated fun of grappling hook mayhem. Not its hard to find more than 3 asteroids within the general spawn area. Asteroids have just become sad and empty. Please bring the old grappling hook fun ones. That`s another thin, grappling hooks don have many uses apart from spelunking large caves nowadays. They need to either have a combat element added to them, like being able to pull enemy's closer (which would help with:
Anyway, I`m just mad about how useless the grappling hook has become as of late.

Tbh, I miss the original Starbound with widely varied planets (rather than "levelled") with base survival mechanics. They're oversimplifying the game imo to save the idiots/lazy/people who RNG hates xD

I also liked it when planets where vastly different. Even when they were the same biomes, you never knew what to expect in the terrain and micro-biomes. I also miss the Sectors. You know, alpha, bravo, etc. They in my opinion were much more effective than the "radioactive" "cold" and "hot" planets. With the sectors you could have all of those AND have different tiers of ores, enemies, and dungeons. It was all in all a way better way to progress. Then, once you hit the top you were fit to go and adventure, explore and build to your hearts content. Now its okay, but it just doesn't feel the same. The progression still depends on boss fights, something I approve of, but its just not the same as it used to be.

God... i love this game but it needs to cahnge a LOT of things, so i will mention more than one...
    - Need to find schematics to build everything. Why cant i just find the raw resource, such as glowfiber, and then, it automatically unlocks everhthing made of glowfibre?? having to sacvenge arround for schematics is plainly stupid
    - Recent Nightly Builds update, having to craft steel from iron and Copper. COPPER. Where in the hell is steel made with copper? go back to the coal, i dont even know why you switched to oil in the first place. same thing to durasteel, requiring SILVER, which can be a pain in the ass to find. I really hope they change this.
    - Apex Staffs. they SUCK. they simply SUCK. my favorite race has the worst staff of all times, taht can only summon a stationary drone that fires in one direction

I liked it better when steal was iron and coal. Oil is a pain to find in large amounts (for me at least)
