What do you dislike most about starbound

(Disclaimer: This post is NOT for hating on the game. It is for telling the devs what we currently dislike about Starbound in the hope that they can improve it.)

I thought the devs could use 1 post telling them what we dont like, instead of 100 different ones. If you disagree with someones post please DONT comment on it. this is a brainstorming post NOT a debating post.

Personally, I dislike how unrewarding the quests are, I always get a gun/weapon 3 tiers below my currently equipped one. also, by the time i get to the latter game quests, i already have dozens of tech cards/matter manipulator components. I definitely DONT need or want more from the quests.

Honestly, I dislike how combat against ranged enemies kinda requires a shield or broadsword. Without some kind of gap closer, it's super difficult to get to them without dying.

i don't like how i can't craft many of the blocks, and i suppose not being able to paint things like clothes, lights and furniture annoy me. and trying to acquire throwing weapons with any regularity.

i think the tech cards will be made much more rare at some point. it'd make sense. as for weapons, a rare version for a certain tier usually outperforms a common, which you'd get in a quest so you're sorta boned there.

@Joseph the wanderer, if this thread isn't about hating the game, why use the word 'hate' in the title? It's a bit misleading, and I immediately came here to see how uncivil the whole affair was. I'd recommend changing it.

Personally, I dislike how pixel loss upon death is coupled with no means of storing pixels without an even worse loss than you'd get by dying.

statement: i look at voxel storage as insurance against foolish multipule deaths between when you store them and when you use them. it is, for example very easy to die a LOT in volcanic areas and lose many thousands of pixels more than you had planned because you prioritized making sure the ores you were collecting don't respawn (for instance, the time i forgot i was carrying all my cerulium on me when i went spelunking...)

I hate that it takes your entire energy bar to kill a single normal monster of your tier (and heavens forbid you miss), with that tier's ranged weapons (And energy-giving armors). I feel with 1 energy bar you should be able to kill at least 3, roughly. Then the Elites could take perhaps 3 energy bars worth and be more threatening in general. From there it'd be nice to have random Bosses in the wild.

Ranged in general feels very dissatisfying.

That's all that's on my mind right now.

The fact that ranged weapons in general are dissatisfying. Not just from the fact that they take too long to kill anything (It's a sci-fi game. If the game is going to have some sort of imbalance between melee and ranged weapons, it should be in the ranged weapons' favor, if anything. Melee weapons already have the fact that they don't conflict with techs), but also that they are kind of boring. It would have been easy to expect sillier weapons (As common/uncommon guns), such as rocket shotguns, automatic shotguns that shoot exploding buckshot, guns that shoot massive beams, rocket launchers that shoot in bursts, guns that shoot exploding trails that are very difficult to obtain because they hurt a lot, semi-automatic RPG assault rifles (OK This one would be at least Rare), guns that shoot VERY fast (30 shots per second or so), etc... with the guns getting stranger and more awesome from THAT.

i dislike how weak most guns are. i dislike how often pets eat, which in my experience can get as low as 5 to 10 seconds between meals. i HATE sandstorms on dead planets. players are slowed to a crawl, enemies are not. that is about all i can come up with, its pretty hard to come up with things i dont like, starbound is a great game.

It confuses and enrages me (no it doesn't; you need to watch more Futurama) that firing a gun uses energy, but swinging a humungous broadsword that's *bigger than my character* doesn't. I supppose energy use is a way of doing away with the need to implement ammos, but I think it would be better just to bite the bullet (you saw what I did there, right?) and have ammo.

Over-saturation of "rare" components like modules and tech chips. Also telepoter cores. You should at least be able to sell them (for a good amount).
How guards need to have their own homes, not just a barracks.
How they got rid of Oil (in crafting), uranium, and solarium.

Im with the not being able to craft alot of blocks. Like lattices, and bridge blocks. And complete lack of colors in armor and clothing.

Also, for Floom, oil is still used in the lantern on a stick which is needed to upgrade your light pack.

And for those that don't like energy for weapons, yeah, its a place holder, but it helps me if I just believe that my suit carries a small energy generator and the energy powers meh guns. Its either this or craft actual bullets or use pixels for ammu.

I hate... well a lot of things. There are things I like so far but aren't done yet so they might change or I might not like the polish. I think the big thing I don't like is that I feel very disconnected from what I'm meant to be doing. Either I feel forced into doing things I don't care to do, or I'm just dumped somewhere with nothing to do.

I feel like the game is trying to be two polar opposite games at the same time but is pulling neither of them off. I'm all for testing the boundaries of game genres, but you have to make it work. It's like the game's stuck in the valley between action RPG and survival sandbox... every time you fix one side the other side suffers. Nothing is balanced, in part, because the pacing of all the different elements combined can't be paced at similar rates.

I also hate tech... just the whole thing... I like the effects but I'd rather get those effects another way at later stages in the game.

I also don't understand what a lot of things in the game are for? It's like someone thought it was cool and stuffed it in. Ship pets, challenge rooms... they're just kind of there... they're not a problem, but are pretty pointless... they could be given a point, but so far... nope...

I'm suspicious of a phrase like 'later in the game', because my head translates it to 'after more o'that delicious grind'. I already have a J-O-B, and it easily provides my RDA of drudgery. Grind against traffic, grind out code, watching the build system grind and throw a rod...

I play games because after a day of that I want to hurl planets into the sun and cackle at the screams of their inhabitants*.

That's what I want, but I'll settle for not having the game artificially extended by cranking up the grind knob.

    * in case the Galactic Communications HQ is listening: that is called "exaggeration for comedic effect". I have no current plan to propel the Earth into the sun. Have you even seen the price of hi-dens boson-torrent impulse devices?

Well, it could be that the guns manufacture their bullets before firing them. However, it still doesn't explain why the devs didn't even add an in-universe reason. It is specially bad as ammo could have been used as a mechanic that allowed the player to have several ammo types per gun (Such as armor-piercing bullets that deal less damage but ignore some damage resistance, or bullets that split into more bullets that, in total, deal more damage than a single normal bullet would have...) or something similar. They wouldn't have even had to make a ton of new ammo items, as they could have simply made all guns share the same ammo, but use them in varying amounts (EX Shotguns and assault rifles would use the same ammo, but the latter only uses up ammo every 10 shots or so).

I dislike the currently purely star based layout of solar systems ...
where, from the star type, you can predict with 100% certainty, which types of planets there are in a system.
(and where, no matter what planet, the same type of implant is needed to survive on each planet of the system).

I´d definitely like to have a more natural system,
where, for example, you may have inferno planets close to the sun ... Forest/Jungle/Terran planets in the goldilocks zone
and cold (or barren) planets in the outer reaches of the solar system.
And where therefore the level of the planets (and its needed implants) is rather on an individual planetary base and not the same for the whole system
