Firstly for those who struggle to survive in mechs: Learn to dodge. Serious, it's not just about killing the enemies fast, learn to dodge better. Some pieces of advice: Don't under-estimate the boosters. Stop thinking in terms of being a slow moving tank of the 1940s, and think in terms of modern tanks: Range and speed > armor.

While defense IS an important stat, what you really truely need is mobility. Get the sleek boosters asap, you'll be amazed at how much faster and how much more quickly you get to that top speed.

With speed and agility also means knowing HOOOW to dodge. Try strafing and moving at angles more, when an enemy gets closer, switch angle and change direction away from his direction: Learn to let their own high top speed become there biggest weakness. Stop moving in one direction. Enemy asteroid about to hit and y our moving say up-left? Switch to up-right, right, then head down. Basically go around him, he'll miss you and get thrown way off course before he can correct himself. They got bad maneuvering, take advantage of it.

Edit: Also learn which enemies to kill first, there is a specific order to kill and it's because I say so. Serious:

Anything that leaves gas trails: They are fragile as heck but extremely dangerous like Serious sam headless kamikazi's, kill them first.

Big/biggest asteroids: Fast and dangerous, eliminate quickly, the little ones scatter and may lose you, and aren't as fast.

Big Robots which shoot you: These guys go next, they harrass you and love to do tons of damage. See a pattern here?

Asteroids: When you have 3/3 boosters upgrades you can dodge these with practice, so they go last.

Lastly: You can bail out of the mech in a fight and warp to ship. Don't be afraid of doing so. Live(or not lose pixels), Learn from your mistakes, fight tomorrow.

I always just get out of my mech and rocket spear around, which is much faster than at least the low-speed boosters (not sure about the high speed ones); the net result is completely random movement that careens so wildly that even on top-tier environments I can occasionally survive by doing this while lobbing bombs. Dual-wielded bombs have a base DPS of 200, and with armor bonuses, have similar DPS to mech weapons while being bouncy AOE weapons.

So, long story short, if you find your mech often runs out of energy quickly, I suggest occasionally stepping out of your mech and doing your work yourself and later driving over with your mech to collect the batteries.

I dunno how people are seriously having a hard time with power, I just destroy a few mines and not let myself get hit. Maybe I'll make a video on how to dodge properly.

Well, if you want to skip some of the grind, you can use this trick to defeat enemies in an area maybe 1-2 tiers higher than your mech should be confronted with.

I don't think I'm having as much fun as I could using the mech. Most chassis pieces look like something Dr. Eggman would make (especially the Eggman chassis of course), and the ones that I think look cool (like the USCM body) are just straight-up downgrades compared to other pieces.

The weapons are cool, and I'm glad that there's pretty much always a good automatic gun / melee / rocket launcher / etc to use for every tier, but they're still not as powerful as my weapons out of the mech, which makes me just want to run away from everything rather than fight it. Either that or hop out of my mech for a second to fire my gun at an enemy flying past me.

Everything else about the update is super cool though, I really like the new furniture and blocks. The sloped hulls are perfect for custom ships and the reinforced tech blocks look so much better.

I feel like the Mech crafting should be expanded, so that the body, boosters and legs are cosmetic, or at least have a costume slot, as some of the designs are really good, but the stats leave much to be desired.

If they make those parts cosmetic only, they'll need to include new objects to attach to Mechs, to determine their stats, by making things such as power cores, servos, and flight modules.

Mechs also aren't viable for planet exploration, as there's no way to restore their energy. Speaking of which, they need to find other ways to restore Mech energy, which doesn't involve killing the enemies in the flying zones.

They should also implement techs into the Mech system, as flying them around to avoid being hit is very difficult, considering the momentum involved. And the grappling hooks don't work in zero gravity.

Yeah, extra slots I would like mechs to have include:
    Cosmetic slots
Two dedicated slots for drones that could be deployed using the tech keys at a continous small energy cost.
A slot specifically for a recharging mechanic that can be used on planets or other places with none of the enemies around to recharge you, each having their own energy regen speed and defense reduction values, activatable with the third tech key. Solar panels have good energy regen, but high defense reduction since they have to be external and have to have a large surface area, generators tend to have lower energy regen, but also lower defense reduction, since you at most need to extend a radiator out to deal with excess heat.

    I'm not impressed, actually.

With every new major update, i awake from my hibernation, checking out the Starbound changelog to see, if existing content has finally been worked on to not be as shallow, annoying and inconvenient as it is right now, in my humble opinion.
I'm also still waiting for the "distinct progression paths" too, but i guess that boat has sailed a long time ago.

Well, except for space-travel, nothing was touched, so back to hibernating for another year or so. :nurusnooze:

the lack of vanityslots for mechs breaks my hearth. the rest is fine.

one of the things i like to do is get a hammer and swing it in zero-g space as it makes me spin like a record. if i knew how to make a gif i would do so.

Not only that, but somehow I find the mechs to be just a tad too bulky. Even modded the texture for the basic mech myself.

On a more positive note; I friggin !love! the design of the Flak Cannon.
