What controls how the Lunar Base Door opens?

Specifically, the one in the ericu-whatist lunar mining mission.

My cat mod can't seem to open this door, but humans have no problem. It's weird...

 

There might be an invisible proximity detector set somewhere in the air above where the cat can be detected?

No, The erchius mining facility specifically has a way you can copy. It uses the pressure plate but set 3 blocks off the ground so that when you pass by it sets it off. The pressure plate is cartable at the wiring station but you need a white wall or floor to blend the pressure plate in with. The pressure plate is only white but there may be a mod to change the color I don't know.
