maybe in the middle of the tentacle planet there's a giant hole in the ground that's actually a mouth, and you can fall in and kill the tentacled thing from inside

I've always had a liking for "Satellite" style enemies. This could be taken a number of different ways, be it a weapons satellite firing lasers/missiles/other sorts of weapons at you from space or some sort of robotic defense system with a number of floaty things around it.

Bigger versions of an existing species, or randomly generated bosses, just like the normal creatures and weapons.

Reaper. Destroyer class to be specific. For an ocean planet i would totally go for Leviathan. Huge sea monster of some sorts.

Maybe not Dark Link exactly, but fighting a clone that copies your every move would be awesome.

No idea but I certaintly don't want bosses from other games. I mean this is Starbound, a new game, its own game, & not some compilation of other games. Sure I could think of some awesome ones & some good ones posted in this thread but it wouldn't make sense for them to be in SB. When modders start fooling around then thats cool for those who like to see all their favorite mobs from other games.

    Regarding the clone/Dark Link idea:

I was thinking you could make that into an entire level of sorts. You could find some abandoned research facility on a planet which scans you as you pass through the decontamination area. As you progress through the level, you discover what exactly they were working on (about a third of the way through) - cloning technology, specifically. After a certain point, you start fighting clones of friendly NPCs that you've met from all around the galaxy.

At the end, the final boss is a fresh new clone of you with all of your equipment, except better (upgraded versions?), along with a gigantically buffed amount of health, to give it boss-level health (at least five times your current health). You take out the clone, collect the loot, and try to recover from the permanent psychological damage of killing yourself.

Well as the apex 'space ape race' has just been announced, as i gather there apes but are well advanced in technology so i think what would be cool is that the apex race had a ape leader like monkey's,apes do in the real world but with a twist.
If you pick the apex race at the start of game randomly say half way through the game the leader of the apex race returns from a expedition to find better technology's but also has gone mad and insane doing so from the long and lonely travel through time and space and you have to take him down i.e the apex boss --
