What are your favourite Sci-fi melee weapons?

Claw weapons

 

A simply gun like that, without so many power, but that might shoot thousands of times really fast, also that might be able to dual wield
And not much hard to make, like three guns after the "starter" gun you get.
For me it would be really nice, also add a upgrade like a ultimate version of it if possible, like for much higher levels

the sword should have the same humming/flashing effect as in the game.
so much potential to be cool. the sword would always be kept in its sheath and on first use, strike a powerful blow thanks to the sheath's boosters (players will get what i mean), and after that, be immediatly putted back its in sheath unless you keep attacking with it in a flurry of blows after which, when you finally stop, goes back in the sheath.

could introduce an interesting "do i want the powerful first-strike or multiple weaker, but faster attacks ?" mechanic

edit : ok, for those who dont know, the sword's sheath has a clip and a trigger that, when pressed, rocket the swords out of the sheath and sam catches it as it fly out striking a much stronger blow than he normally would

 

cant believe i went through all 32 pages lol, great stuff everyone. but first page still holds a spot with me and the 40k weapons. the chain-sword is a must have! and im sure an assault rifle with explosive rounds is in the game somewhere, and that satisfies the storm bolter. would like to see nemesis weapons like the halberd the grey knights have. so if there is armour in starbound resembling space marine armour, that could lead to some sweet role-playing in game with friends....
i can imagine it.....
Group of space marines on a mission to find long ago lost human settlements to help aid us against the ever growing xenos and chaos threats, cataloguing and if needed fighting what greets them.

 

Even if there isn't any armor that resemble that which the Space Marines wear, I imagine (and hope) someone will mod it in.

 

yeah, i remember in a podcast interview, Tiy was asked about modding and his response was that modding Starbound will be extreamly easy, even for those who have never modded anything before. so ill be keeping an eye out for it.

The Dawnbreaker

 

Nano-blades like the Dragons Tooth from Deus Ex.

 

I think it would be cool to add a Mind Control Device of sorts which would allow you to take over the minds of mobs. Maybe in the form of a Power Fist or something.

 

1. Stick - No I'm not kidding. In every sci-fi game or show I've seen there is some form of tree where you may get a stick. Uber weapon can be the Ugly Stick.

2. Rock - So you can play "Rock, Stick, and Gun".

3. Pipe - A simple pipe that can serve as a breathing tube, whacker, or even an extraterrestrial life indicator. (poke it)

 

After thinking it over, I'd have to say that my favorite sci-fi weapon would have to be this:

Complimentary Hazardous Environment suit and pair of reading glasses included.

 

I've only read up to page three, but I'm surprised no one's suggested vibro-swords, KotOR style. If you've never played, the blade vibrates at such a high frequency that it cuts through stone, plasteel and other hard materials.

They could... uh... ignore armor values when calculating damage (or AC, if you roll that way)... I guess...

Edit: Hold that thought, I just read that someone by the handle 'shcfyd' posted this, damn.

Okay, read up to page five now, and something I just got into my head that would be kind of bad-ass:
A spear with a removable head that acts as a magnet of awesome power.
After that, all metallic thrown weapons (and possibly bullets, if you want to roll that way) would ark toward the entity.
Though, bullets would probably do less damage, because they have to change trajectory, loosing speed (because I like balancing weapons).
After that, you'd have to reload, I.E. attach a new spearhead.

The dual knife claw things that Predator's have in the predator movies. They also have some really cool spears and boomerangs.

 

Just finished page nine (I'm saying this so people forgive me if I re-post) but a chemical/potion that turns you into a more beastly version of yourself, think Jekyl and Hyde, would be generally pretty awesome (classical meaning and modern meaning).

 

maybe you should either read the whole thing and write your ideas on a paper at your side or just not give a crap to what people have suggested before and just give you own suggestions. its impossible for everyone here to cross-check if something hasent been suggested yet.

 

Fist Weapons

Shockwave Gloves: Doesn't damage the enemy directly, it makes the user slam their fist(s) into the ground causing a shockwave across the ground both stunning and damaging any enemies in the shockwave.

Pulse Gloves: The user "smacks" the enemy, the pulse from the gloves disrupts the shields but does little damage.

Macho Gloves: The user charges a punch up for about five seconds before swinging and knocking the enemy hurtling through the air.

Necro Gloves: If the user can get close enough and get the enemy to stay in place, these gloves will absorb the health of the enemy and give it to the user. If the enemy has shields then they will slowly be absorbed first. (Although the user won't gain the shields)

Blades

Jagged Sabre: A very jagged short blade that is pulsing with electrical energy. The attack animation slows down when the blade contacts the enemy due to the jagged shape.

Double Ended Daggers: This weapon would technically be two handed because it consists of two daggers with a blade on both ends. The user must hold the handle of each in the middle. They are fast and glow in the dark.

Hammers
Hammer of Destruction: A very large hammer with a slow attack animation. It deals high damage and can be charged up to make an explosion when it hits the enemy.
