What are your favourite Sci-fi melee weapons?

I'm sure these have been mentioned, they must have been! But let me mention these cool weapons! Just so I can second them? Third them? 5027482th them...?

Phasers from Star Trek. They could have a stun feature for special uses.
Bowcasters... because I know someone that loves bows, and he'd probably love this! ... I think. It would just be cool either way!
Lightsabers! (Of course!)

 

Every single variation of the lightsaber! Especially the double-bladed lightsaber, lightsaber pike and lightwhip!

Oh crap.... good point. I knew there was a reason I didn't post those two weapons the first time. I forgot melee was in the topic title. Just kinda posted in a hurry from my phone right before Thanksgiving dinner. But... At least they're still scifi weapons! ^^

 

Bardiches should be weapons in the game.
Or halberds, or any poleaxe for that matter. Just add lasers and we're good.

 

I don't know if this thread is still going, but I would like to put in my two cents: a laser flail, like the Dao of Pow in Terraria, but the chain could be a certain color of laser, and the actual damaging part could be a slightly different shade than the chain.

 

I would like to know the plans for polearms. I have never understood everyone's fascination with swords, and other such close melee weapons. Keeping your enemies at a distance is important, and most games seem to entirely ignore this. I would think that the addition would not be to difficult, with the procedural system. If I understand it correctly, polearms could be added simply by adding a new handle part that is a long pole, and have it put the pointy bits on the end.

 

A graviton hammer. Extra kick for people who like watching their enemies fly into the earths atmosphere to become a new satellite!

im late to the party but id say a good laser pistol that look modern (like 2010 sci-fi style, not 50s sci-fi style) but with an old fashion PEWPEW !! SFX

If any of you have played GW2, I would like to have the Elementalist's water dagger skill, with the whirling scythe thingies. Futuristic of course. Look it up if you haven't seen it.

I would also like to see a kind of laser chain thing with some kind of spike/ball on the end. Like a mix of a flail and a whip. It would probably be 2 handed tho...

a sort of giant shuriken that acts like a boomerang would be nice. kinda like tron's light disc or captain america's shield. then again, does that count as a melee weapon ?
otherwise imma go with the Z-saber from mega-man X5, the animation and SFX of that thing were pretty sweet (and the C-strike move from crescent grizzly was so freakin OP )

I'm a big fan of the Chinese Qiang spear and of sonic weapons, so I thought "why not combine them in one?". Primary attack would be a regular piercing stab or slash, secondary would be an energy-consuming stab/slash delivering a sonic boom upon contact with the enemy, dealing lots of damage, knocking back the target quite a bit and possibly stunning them.
I don't know if combat mechanics allow this, but perhaps using the secondary attack while in mid-air could result in the player character stabbing the ground and delivering a sonic boom at the same time, resulting in a mini-quake that would deal a smaller knockback to all ground-based enemies in a small area, delivering little damage but with a higher chance of stunning.

I would consider any boomerang-like weapon a melee weapon. After all, if you have to use it again and again, it doesn't consume ammo, and its mass is many times that of typical ranged weapon munition, it's not extremely different in concept to a flail with a very long chain. If anything, I'd put returners in their own category.

 

dang, that spear looks awesome. next step is to "warhammer" it up and make the blade of the spear a chainsaw weapon like so many WH40K weapons

 

Power gloves Fallout style, maybe with an electric charge in them. Also, do towels count ?
