What are the advantages of each planet type?

I'm fairly new to this game (To avoid spoiling too much, I'll just say that I'm a bit after killing the second boss)

I'll go straight to the point:

*** It seems to me that Desert planets are always the best bet if you want to quickly gather rare ores.

    Why?

Well... desert planets have fair climate and are filled with easy-to-break blocks.

And if that wasn't enough they are also filled with Fine Sand and Gravel... Which only need a bit of disturbance to shake away all the ores they had inside.

    This got me wondering....

Besides the obvious reason of exploring different places and enjoying the game (which we all do), why would anyone bother to explore a moon? or a snow planet?

    and so on...

PS: On an unrelated topic - hahahahah my title in these forums is just something else. I wonder when I'll stop being a hobo hahahahah Priceless

Moons appear to have more ore then normal planets.

Atleast that's what my stack of 100 diamonds while still in alpha sector says.

Honestly it depends on how you play. You can play solely on desert planets all the way up through the X-Sector. Different planets will have different things that players can either use or challenge themselves with.

Snow planets, obviously you're challenge is to not freeze. Moons as well.
As whether if they have more materials or is easier? I think that is completely seen when it happens. I've been to planets that I come down at spawn and I'm standing around ore everywhere. And then others I have to go 3-4 screens over to see any ore.

Personally, I like forest planets, because wood is nice to have and you'll use planks for a bit, whether they be for torches or whatever. Desert planets are not the only ones with that fine sand / gravel that falls and pops out all those ores. You just have to get through a layer of dirt, in most cases.

Tentacle Planet is the only one with the liquid named "Tentaclejuice". <-Trufact.

Jungles! Everything you touch turns into plant fibers, free bandages for the early and mid gameplay.

I also love Jungle worlds, for both the plant fibers and the abundance of wood. There is just as much wood on a jungle planet as on most forest worlds I've seen.

    Awesome replies, thank you!

It would be nice now to see someone with the favorite planet being "snow type".

PS: In regards of the odds of finding Techs, planet type is irrelevant, correct?

PPS: I still haven't seen a tentacle planet so far, but I'll sure go for a tentaclejuice when I get a hold of it hahah

Snow planets I find are good for ore as well. Not as good as fine sand or gravel, but snow and slush are super soft so they mine quickly. The poison biomes on jungle planets are great for plant fibers and toxic tops, which make cool stuff but are impractical to farm cause of longest grow time. Eye biomes also great for oculemons which also make cool stuff. Having enough food to not starve for a month is nice benefit of just running across some biomes.

Planet size is also important to note. Larger planets have the advantage of larger size per biome or layer, meaning there's more of a specific thing, however small sized planets are overall superior as it takes less time to transverse them. It's also easier to find installations, and as far as I can tell larger planets don't necessarily have more installations on them.

Tentacle planets seem to have a large number of chests containing guns in my experience.

The desert planets are clearly the best for mining, making giant fine-sand and gravel avalanches (gravelanche?) pours a ton of ores right into your lap for little to no effort.

I haven't noticed a statistically significant difference between the planet types in terms of ore distribution.

I have a friend that actually prefers snow biomes since newer players can't usually stand them. And he loves snow.

Yeah, planet type has no bearing towards techs. Just gotta find those Tech Chests.
