Imagine a planet like Jupiter, "only" gas. the only landing place would be like "mini asteroid" get it ? The only way to get here will be with a jetpack or another flying vehicle. you can build your own jetpack or find it with luck. Just a cool idea, hope it will be read by someone and maybe one of the dev' ! (sorry for bad english)
A gas planet would present unique challenges. Technically, gas planets are not completely gas - as pressure increases, the gas becomes liquid and eventually solid. Perhaps some sort of upper-atmospheric station could provide a base camp for exploration and defense against the inevitable airborne hostile lifeforms inhabiting the upper atmosphere? That would allow gas planets to essentially be treated like ocean planets, but with harsher requirements for survival.
Gas planets have been announced, they are too dangerous to approach and will not likely have anything orbiting it.
How about... When entering the gas planet, it will be super windy and hard to be on. You have to proceed by jumping on a 1x1 1x2 1x 3 1x4 2x1 2x2 2x 3 2x4... Max 7x7 blocks of solid stuff, while nearly not seeing anything. Small particles would be flying and pushing you backwards. But of course, gas planets would have awesome loot. And they would be hard to reach. I would love that. Challenge with no ease.
Thanks everyone to answer in my post Btw I wrote this before the navigation post, where we saw a gas planet. It says "Currently in this example you’re in orbit around a gas giant named Delta Aura IV which you cannot land on. You may scan the gas giant for resources and other treats and then be on your way." I do understand we wont be able to explore a gas planet then :/ But we still can check for resources ! So it still be nice ! (sorry again for bad english)
I think there could be something like floating cities on gas planets, just like on Bespin from Star Wars
