I was thinking it could be fun to have petrol underground (like water) and that we could build pump and pipes on the surface that would pump petrol into barrel that we could use as fuel for the ship. Automatically generating fuel until the reserve is empty... we could then just go to planet X where we have a good oil reserve and collect it and continue our journey.
the devs should be implementing something similar to this soon, as a lot of people mentioned: "why does a high tech spaceship run on coal?"
WHY SPACE SHIP REACH FTL SPEED WITH BURNING ENGINE ? go to google there is exact calculation of how much fuel is needed and how many years is needed to reach speed of light and after this u still can calculate how many years is needed to slow down
THUS, GAME LOGIC. but seriously, I was just saying what people were saying, but sometimes you just have to go along with what's done... because it's tedious once the changes are made! D :
There is indeed petrol on some planets, we found a whole bunch of it on a desertic biome. We were so excited with a friend that we gather 2k of it ( one hit with a gold pickaxe ), back on the ship we we're kinda disappointed since it isn't working as fuel :/
well, I guess this concludes the question. I guess the devs aren't finished with coding the stuff, or you just might need to refine the petrol first... I guess the devs are too busy handling savestate wipes and bugs, stuff like that : P
The presence of oil in the game will be very interesting, but oil are not located in the core like water
if they did, they would have burned up before we could even get there....if there's any air down there, in which I think not...maybe?
I don't think so. It's very difficult to burn oil, only light fractions are burning. And in the game you can dig up to the magma and in nature oil can be located even 200 ft (60 m) from the surface, while magma is located 100 miles from the surface.
I don't think the ship is operating via a combustion engine. Some sort of nuclear reactor seems more likely.
The petrol presence will be very apropos. For example: you craft the portable seismic station, walk on the surface and when it makes a noise like "beep-beep" you put the oil rig and it produce oil with some speed (like 700 bbls per day) and then you craft the oil refinery and you have a petrol!
Some cars can ride by the alcohol or sunflower oil. And here is some sort of hyper-engine what can fly through the space by any type of fuel. So, the game mechanics is logical in some side.
I feel you have a good idea, but you don't seem to have any knowledge (no offence) about how and where crude oil (or petrol) exists. There are not giant underground 'lakes' of oil, instead the oil is within the tiny pores and fractures in rocks. With this, perhaps in rocks that you come across, if there is a slightly darker patch of rock you could retrieve a sample and determine whether there was oil in it, and then you could precede to piping it up.
I told the same. So the idea with oil rig is more logical than digging and collecting liquid oil. And in other case there can be an "oil-saturated rock" what you can collect and then get crude oil by the special refinery (like high-viscosity oils extraction in Canada).
I imagine it has a matter to energy convertor or nuclear fusion engine, so it doesn't matter what you use as fuel.
