Well I WAS excited about this game..

There's a difference between a thread you don't want to discuss and a thread where there isn't anything to discuss
The "What if? What about? What do you think?" threads can be talked about, even if they're not that interesting, while "I'm excited, I wish we had a release date, I put a gun next to a scarf in paint" threads cannot

 

Gtox, I am truly sorry for what I said, I over reacted about a thread just showing your excitement. Please don't let me ruin the game for you. I urge you to buy it when it releases, the devs have worked very hard to create their masterpiece, and you should try it. I am sorry if I ruined your experience here. Please stay on the forums.

 

It's very well documented that you're not allowed to be excited about the game on these forums. You are expected to silently wait with an utterly neutral attitude towards the game until it comes out.

UNLESS someone says anything even remotely cautious about the game's quality. If someone steps out of line and gives even the slightest hint that they are not 100% certain that Starbound is the objectively perfect game that it is, you have permission to blast them sky-high.

But no, seriously, don't let this community's shortcomings put you off of the game. Because (and I'm not supposed to say this) they have nothing to do with the final product. All of the Righteous Defenders of Starbound will be but dust in the wind when the game comes out and you are never required to speak to them or read their posts ever again.

 

I dont mind waiting for this game. I mean after all, there is so many other things to do. Minecraft and bookwriting is a hobby of mine. Ever read Salvatores works with Drizzt' Do'Urdan? THe books ar ethicker than the bible but good reading if you can take the dry narrative.

As a more ontopic note, every forum has its bad apple or two in the barrel, but alot of us just make mistakes that we regret later. Theres no need really to refuse to buy a product because some fool decides to put a smackdown on you for stating your opinion. Anyways, I do hope youll enjoy the game when it finally releases

I must say that the starbound community i my experience thus far is better than most other videogame related communities I have been to, in fact quite a bit better. That being said, it is still a VIDEO GAME related community which means its worse than any other hobby related community I have been a part of (Jeeping, hiking, boardgames, fishing, art.) My point is that videogame communities, for whatever demographical reason) attract trolls on a bit of a higher frequency. Dont let those trolls throw you off, there are generally quite nice folks here. Ever gone to the League of Legends or World of Warcraft forums? Those places truely represent a massive black hole in western civilization.

No but real talk, this forums does some great things, and has great users, a lot of us spend portions of our time working on starbound related things, such as avatars, artwork, stories, there's even a group designing an in-game mini series. We have a huge amount of dedicated and nice people but we also have a lot of people who decide that certain things are taboo/shouldn't be posted. They are wrong, but they really can't be controlled because aside form any personal harassment, they unfortunately haven't done anything wrong either. Don't let them change your opinion of us, join in some of the nice activities we have here, start roleplaying, become an avid suggestion reviewer, do some art, anything, but just reconsider leaving, alright?

 

And you need to understand that calling people names like that is more of a problem, you can inform people of their mistakes without being ignorant about it.

Yeah, There's been a lot of rudeness lately. It makes me sad, really.
You just have to watch what you post i guess. There's always going to be a line of people waiting to bash anybody posting things like that.

Sorry you had to pass that.I used to only hear good things about these forums, but now it's becoming just like all other.

 

These forums don't have much to discuss anymore, and are chomping at the bit for any information on Starbound they can get at. To fill the void, discussion topics crop up that are not overly interesting (in my opinion) and typically start lengthy, circular debates. I would avoid the forums until the game releases or is close to release. This does not make the community bad, just kind of boring (again, in my opinion, your mileage may very).

 

The last time I tried to do that I got ripped apart for it by another person. It shouldn't stop others from trying to be helpful though.

Experience has taught me that practically every large gaming community in existence is filled with douchebags and trolls. I've gotten used to it.

 

Yea the community is not that great here, but that can be said of many forums. The community is part of the reason why I stopped writing my fan fic, and the only reason why I come here only sparingly to see if any new info is out. Keep something in mind though, these guys suck but the game doesn't

Well technically this thread isn't up to the standards considering this is something one should have PMed a staff member on [or, more fittingly, a dev, but you'd hardly get any reception because they've got stuff to do]. That's beside the point though.

Point is that there are moments then this community is a big jackass to new members, to the point where they would care less about this community and break the rules anyway. If you think people of X don't deserve a game, and through enough negativity you have convinced them that this community is pure crap, then congrats, you succeeded. You also succeeded in dropping the gains of this game.
