.. until I saw what the community here is like.

My thread - http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/shut-up-and-take-my-money.15935/ - Is locked and ridiculed just because I was unaware that the people here have some unjustified hate towards specific thread titles? Seriously though, what is wrong with people? Why is this even an issue? I was expressing my excitement for a good looking game, but the teenage internet tough guys seem to think they run everything.

    Posted to my wall:
    "Sid_M
Noob do not post crap like that on our beautiful forums. We have enough trolls as it is. Keep it to yourself. Welcome to the Internet!"

-"Sid_M", go F yourself and get a life.

Well good luck with that one. Perhaps the moderators should do a better job of getting rid of the rude idiots instead of allowing them to piss off potential customers; let me know how that business model works out for you.

Honestly, you shouldn't let the community turn you away from the game. It's just that right now, anything, that relates to releasing the has rather negative impact. Several threads have been locked down and overall the feeling, what I have seen, again, is rather negative. This community isn't half bad, really, it's just the release thing going on.
Maybe you could re-think your decision? There are plenty of good games with terrible community, but it's mainly the forums. In-game community is usually more behaving. And besides, why would you let other people affect on your decisions? If you really like the game, buy it, do it for yourself. Don't let some random anonymous forumers ruin your experience.

  3. Greetings, gtox.

The most important message I'd like to pass across in my post is: Don't let a bad experience ruin Starbound for you.

Not every community member has been rude towards you in that topic. Some people have shared your enthusiasm and contributed to the discussion. As you understand, however, there are members who get impatient and may bash on duplicate topics. That is not okay and as Sokina has drawn their attention to the issue - rudeness is never acceptable. In the future, those who act disruptively will have their posts removed and possibly leave with a warning, as she's put it. I agree with this, as it sounds more plausible to me to have the disruptive users punished, rather than affect the OP and other participants by having the thread locked.

You must also remember that when you post in a public place, you are, let's call it, 'putting yourself out there'. With this, I mean that you should be prepared to receive all different types of input, ranging from helpful messages to highly aggressive ones. You can't control how people will react to you, but you can control how you respond to such individuals.

If you are being bullied/attacked, I heavily suggest using the report button and even sending a PM to a moderator. I can guarantee you that they will deal with the issue as quickly as possible, because such behaviours are not acceptable in this forum.

As an active member of this community, it's not a nice thing to see members changing their mind about acquiring Starbound. I do hope you consider what I've said here and don't give up. Everyone's welcome here, as long as respect prevails.

  4. I wouldn't mind these people if I were you. Don't let rotten apples spoil the bunch. I'm sorry you were treated that way.

You're perfectly welcome here, despite what anyone may say or think, unless of course if you have done something wrong. Welcome to the forums, friend.

I'm also sandwiched by two awesome posts. Curse you Keeper and Suki D:<

Hey there, Gtox. I was the one who locked your thread, but understand that it was locked to prevent these people from ridiculing it and causing a lot of conflict within it. I hope you get to read this, because I want it to be perfectly clear that we do not tolerate rudeness, disrespect, or any other means of attacking other users. This is a serious issue, and we do not take it lightly. I did not lock your thread because of any fault of yours, regardless of how other users made you feel. It was locked quite simply because those people were ruining your thread, and taking it way too seriously, and that's not any fault of yours.

We at these forums value friendliness and respect, as well as try to promote having a good time. I'm sorry that you were treated the way you were, because some users were impatient towards you, and even downright rude in responding. That type of attitude doesn't reflect well on our community, nor does it reflect the majority of our community. Every day we work to make this community an enjoyable place for everyone, and I assure you that action will be taken when users are being intentionally harmful/hateful towards each other. You shouldn't refuse to buy a game you're excited for just because of a few spoilsports. Establishing a good community is one of our top goals here, and we'd hate to lose anybody due to issues that can otherwise be avoided. That being said, I hope you change your mind and decide to stick around and have fun. We want this place to be fun for everyone before, and after, the game comes out. If any users harass you, feel free to notify me directly, or use the report function, and I assure you it'll be dealt with as soon as it's received.

    -A concerned moderator

A thread needs to have a topic so that people can discuss it, and posting "I'm excited" doesn't make much to discuss
Despite that we still get these threads weekly, so the only thing to really talk about is how annoyed we're getting with such threads

Judging a game by its community is completely illogical, it makes no difference to how the game is going to be
If you really don't like the community just stay off the forums and wait for the game to be released

Why you should care? Don't visit the forum, don't communicate with morons, buy the game when it comes out (you'll know - newsletter + steam) and play with people you know and like. It's not the game that's rotten, it's the community. And honestly this one community isn't that rotten, I think.

I've been on this forum for a year now and I haven't really had any complaints with the starbound community. If you stay a bit longer, you'll learn how annoying those threads can get since we see them every other day. :)

The point is, if a thread annoys a person, that person should just ignore it and move on.

It is far better to not respond at all than to respond negatively.

So what? Why is it bad? because it annoys you? That's plain silly.

If one person is trolling (i.e. constantly making threads asking for a release date, or similar) moderators will sort that out.

Making one thread about how excited you are that the game is coming out/being made/whatever, where is the harm?

People that don't get along with other people should stay alone. No one is forced to be a member of that community.

I saw your thread and read a bit, like I do with 90% of the threads here. I am here because of some decent news. If you intend to be an active part of a community, you have to get over negative stuff as well as the good stuff. Life#s just that way.

Well to be fair, most of the threads don't have anything I'm interested in discussing or putting input into. Don't see me complaining about their value in discussion. This is General Discussion, anyways. Most of the threads that have discussion are pretty much casual and frivolous conversation like "What are you going to do? What if ____? What do you think about Tiy's new post/screenshot?" So you're judging conversations which most only do just that, serve as a means of community discussion and pretty much nothing further, on whether or not you can discuss in it? Well I only post in about 1/15 threads. Most likely less. By your logic I should be teeming with annoyance.

If your excitement and loyalty to something you want extends to a couple of fools insulting you, then losing you isn't really a big problem. Most people made jokes on the thread you posted here. With a few exceptions of foolish people. The moderators work hard and long without any pay for it. It is impossible, however, to prevent every single negative post and/or remove/ban it the same second. Report it, ignore it, and a moderator will take care of it in 1 or 2 days. You have to understand they are people too with lives and everything(except Mollygos perhaps, I've seen a few compromising pictures that might indicate her being a robot o_O). And they locked the thread just to prevent insults and/or something similar towards you.

Do you imagine how much hate and death threats game developers receive? If each of them would act the way you are acting now, no games would ever get published. So calm down, be smart, and don't listen to every single idiot out there in the internet. You'll see 10 times the number on other forums on the internet. But having at least 1 or 2 is inevitable anywhere.

  18. I hate it when people constantly use the word 'troll' for people who aren't trolls at all.
A troll on the internet is someone who makes an account just to mess with people, provoke people, swear at people, and basically ruin the fun for everyone.

It is not correct to call gtox a troll, for he just voiced his excitement on a thread.

It is also incorrect to call the people who replied aggressively trolls, because they're just annoyed by the fact that there are tons of duplicate threads.

The people who replied very aggressively still aren't trolls either, they just thought gtox was one.

    Oh my.

Well, everything has already been said, so there's nothing to add. I just hope that this drama will somehow resolves itself, and that everything will be back in order soon. Don't let rude members make you run away from the game (also, personal attacks are prohibited on these forums, just sayin').

An "Internet troll" is not someone who does something you don't like, but someone who purposely tries to alienate others.

Before posting, you should have used the search for similar threads, and read the rules and stickies. That is common courtesy in a forum.
If everyone made a thread for every single thing they want to say, then the forums would be near impossible to navigate properly.

What you did was akin to entering someone's house without wiping your feet in the welcome mat. And so you got varied responses of different degrees of hostility. Some within reasonable limits, some rather extreme and even inappropriate.
But the fault is still mostly yours.

In any case, it's not as if you have to come to the forums to play the game. Or play with anyone in these forums.
You can play with your friends and strangers that do not visit the forums.
If you are going to discard a game because of how you were treated when you made a post on the official forums, you may never play any game.
    Well, it's your loss.
