Weird Lava Experiment

Down at the bottom of the world, I decided to have a little experiment with the lava. I had accumulated ~500 bricks of dirt and was curious to know what happened if you put them in the lava. Turns out, you can build right into the lava and then dig out everything but the walls holding out the surrounding lava.

This is what I sort of expected to happen.

But this wasn't: When you place blocks into lava, there is a chance of ore spawning!! I probably mined 50+ silver and another 100 copper (no gold, sadly), simply by "creating" ore veins when I placed dirt in the lava.

    Bug? Intentional feature?

the lava tunnels you can make by hollowing out the dirt you place is intentional, it did that in terraria aswel and it does that in minecraft. The ore spawning is a bug

Hopefully they make cores more intresting

and how would they make the core of a planet more interesting exactly? it's molten rock... not very much you can do there...

Who said it always has to be a molten core?

Actually in Terraria you can't place blocks on lava and when placed in water, if you break the block after the water still remains.

The ore isn't actually spawning. It's already there, just covered up by the lava. The placed dirt removes the lava and exposes the ore.

oh, so we want star wars planets like naboo to be in the game?

That's after they nerfed it. Formerly, you was able to place blocks in liquid in order to dig thru them. You can still do that with the Sandgun.

Because, reality-wise, that's the general structure of a planet?

Who knows what might be living in the molten core of an alien planet? :virorb:

I believe the core of the Earth is iron or is it molten

It's somewhat iron, but due to the high temperature I think it's almost molten. However, the Earth has a layer of lava and stuff, so logically you can't get past of that. Why would you be able in Starbound :p

    I guess

Could someone remind me if we've figured out if the moon's core is molten or not? Cause that would be a neat feature of moon biome planetoids if they didn't have a molten core.

Reality wise ? Half of these planets are made out of flesh rocks and bones ! Lol

Most of the planets in starbound seem smaller then Earth, which means lower internal heat (making the core NOT be molten), so it would make sense for worlds to have different cores depending on size (and partially random of course, for fun)

The Earth's core is actually solid. It is hot enough to be molten at atmospheric pressure but due to the heavy compression by gravity it remains solid.

"The core of planets in this game has to be something hot, like magma, because reality says so!"

Guys.. you're playing a walking apeplantfishmanrobot, that travels faster than light, can use a particle teleporter and jump twice his height without inrun, while wielding an axe three times as large as himself. Not even mentioning UFOs piloted by penguins, artificial brain powered robots or two legged mechs. And you seriously want to send the "reality" reason into the ring? o_O

Do we know every planet in existance reality-wise to be able to determine what can and what can't exist in the center of any given planet in such a way that this fact would NEVER be able to be disputed a thousand years from now?

For all we know there could be a planet somewhere with a frozen yogurt core following laws of physics that we don't yet understand. Hey for all we know the frozen yogurt planet could be in the neighboring solar system! I say we go check. Let's not forget our spoons.
