I get that too. If the randomizer happens to land on one of those, the random button stops working until you manually change the affected category. On Firefox btw.

Edit: It works fine in Chrome. The glitched options are the no clothes options.

 

Still looking at and sometimes refreshing the page...

 

What I said earlier about gender-specific hairstyles apparently only applies to humans and apex.

Should be that much simpler to make them all available to both genders~

 

I think it is good!
Needs improvement though.

I like it! ...but it could be improved, too.
Needs some bug fixing.

Also I think that Eye Color should be an option for at least some of the races!
For Humans, Apex and the Avians it might look odd due to the art style... It makes it look as if their whole eyeballs are that one color.
However it'd make sense for the Florans, the fish guys and the robots.
Floran's eyes are plants, the fish guys look alien enough to pull it off and the robots are made of artifical parts so they may be of any color really.

-It's probably pretty late in the game for me to say this, but I wish that the non-human non-apex races had more "hairstyle" options that weren't completely huge. Actually, avians are pretty fine in this area too, but a lot of the fin options for the aquatics are nearly as big as their heads themselves! I don't mind the huge ones existing, but it seems like there's only 2 or 3 reasonably sized options.

-Aquatics' eyes seem really flat for most skin color options. What happened to that beautiful red-eyes-on-blue-skin that's in the example portrait?

If I seem like I'm being really down on this thing, I'm not! I love it!

 

Obviously, the most notable difference here from what we'll have in the finished product is the lack of an ability to name the character we make. The creator is really nice, though. Also, I giggled when I saw the "gender" symbols for robots. That was clever.

Anyway, I voted "could be improved" for the following reasons:

1. I'd like the ability to choose between all hairstyles regardless of gender, like we can do in Terraria. Who says boys can't have ponytails?

2. Obviously, the glitch where selecting the last option for pants and/or shirts makes your character invisible except for their left arm needs to be fixed.

3. It would be nice if it told you the name of the race you were using.

I would suggest more clothing options but, honestly, I feel like it's not that important considering how much armor and other clothing items there will be in the game.

Something to note:
The creator works on Firefox and Chrome, but not on Internet Explorer.

My opinions?
First of all, it was downright cruel to release it in the middle of a stress test. When I saw the chargen was up, I actually jumped around the room, punching the air in joy. When I saw the stress test thing, ARGH I really felt like towing a train up to my room and throwing it out the window.
But then I was, funk yeah, character generator. But why, oh, why is every race so much cooler than my beloved Avians? </drama>

Seriously now, it is obviously lacking a few things, such as the ability to color the Avian's "fluff", but it's nice to finally have this, and it does work pretty well, at least on Opera. This will have to be enough to keep the userbase entertained and away from release date musings for at least a couple of weeks

In other news, several nations have now declared emergency holidays so everyone can go home and make their Starbound characters. Fires rage unchecked, pots boil over, pizza gets cold, but nobody cares.

That means the robots are still nameless

 

Did anyone else notice that the robots are all wearing old-timey clothes? I think that the devs may make the robots an ironic culture.

 

It's not old-timey. It's steampunk.

 

I laughed so hard when I saw the gender selections for robots. I don't know why but I thought it was hilarious.
Mad about the lack of Haruhi styled slections though :I.

 

You people are complainers... haha I love it!

 

All of the races seem to be somewhat odd (except humans. Can't find anything wrong with them yet.)

• Florans look gentle, but are actually highly predatory.
• Avians are super religious because they're birds that can't fly. (They believe their wings were taken from them long ago by some deity as a punishment for something or other.)
• Robots are medieval(-ish).
• Apex (monkey race) are super advanced.
• Hyotl seem to be Asian, by their clothes.

 

Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not complaining. I'm offering constructive criticism, which is what they asked for.

 

The two most interesting characters to me have been the Water and the Flora ones since they were announced. I gotta admit that I'm slightly disappointed by the flora one right now...

Most of the Foliage options are realllly feminine... I know its not supposed to have a 'gender' per se, but there are 2, maybe 3, foliage options that aren't feminine, and those 2 or 3 are not all that interesting (to me)... Really the only difference between the two 'gender' options is that one of them have a bigger chest, but they both still have swooshy girl hair with flowers... At least make a bald one with a Julius Caesar-esque lettuce thingy on his ears or something...
I guess there is always the whole "flowers are feminine" thing, but I have seen some aggressive masculine looking flowers before...

Any chance of them making more options on this before launch?
