Weapon names are a bit...

Weapon names are a bit stupid... I really dont like names like "Badass hammer" or any other stupid names that you are giving to weapons. Is this game for 5-10 years old guys? Only then I would understand so stupid names to weapons, its not funny if its is intended to be.

 

Maybe a way to name weapons yourself, sort of like what already exists in a few games, would be a good idea?

 

Yep, anything would be better that the current names. Why can't you use names for weapons similar to the names used for armors.

 

Name generation for weapons will be changed in the upcoming combat patch.



They start talking about the new name generation ~16 minutes into the video.

They got better names now and most weapons have a manufacturer attached to the name. For example "Callox Nexusrenderer", where Callox is the manufacturer (so you may run into more weapons with "Callox" in them) and Nexusrenderer is the name. Another exempel they use in the video is "Xia-li Pulseruin" where Xia-li is the manufacturer and Pulseruin is the name.

 

It's always weird to me how people judge names. Apparently Nexusrenderer is a better name than Dudechucker? How come though?

I can't say that I think dudechucker is a brilliant name or anything, but it's not bad. Nexusrenderer doesn't seem better. In fact, I'd say it's a really clumsy mouthful- even without the manufacturer's name tacked on.

 

Well, its a matter of opinion off course.

For me its a better name becuse it sounds somewhat futuristic and, while a tad silly, isent completely silly.

Dudechucker on the other hand just has its sillyness, nothing else.

 

I guess I'm more into how a name sounds rather than what it means, especially since with randomized names the meanings are going to be nonsensical most of the time anyway.

Oh well, like you said: a matter of opinion.

 

You do know weapon names along with almost everything else in the game are randomly generated?

also there is a way to change your weapons specific name. with a program that can edit save data like Notepad++
i used it to edit my characters pose as well as what it says when other people inspect you. i noticed that almost everything in your toolbar (weapons items exc) also showed up but i dont really care about weapon names too much.

 

If altering this means I lose weapons like my Popenator, I will be the saddest of pandas.

 

It looks like the files used to generate weapon names are easily moddable. How interesting.

 

Speaking of weapon changes. Once the combat update comes, here is a guide of possible color combinations for randomly generated weapons.

Is the secondary the blade color? Seems...uniform.

But I think I'll be fine with new names. Ragekiller better still be there though.

I like weapon names

 

I almost forgot, but I made a mod to change the words in random-generated weapons and shields. It's a kind of sloppy mod with just file replacements rather than the proper patching or packing, so I'm just going to link it here instead of putting it on the modding site.

The names should be less "silly," and maybe also a bit less puffed up. I tried to minimize "er-words," like chopper, whacker, killer, etc.

Example names for

Sword: Honed Scimitar
Spear: Pneumatic Ranseur
Revolver: Quick-Draw Heater
Shield: Sturdy Shelter

The mod changes most, but not all, weapon and shield names. I didn't bother with the "crappy" weapons, and I think flamethrowers seemed good enough. If you don't like some of the words I've chosen it should be really easy to figure out how to change them.

i dont see any problem with the names, in fact, they are funny to me, and no i am not a kid, also the game is not serious at all, the art style does fit perfectly with the jokes in the weapons. as one example, one of the best strategy based mmorpg i have ever played is Dofus (which is also very hard and fun), and all the weapons and monsters names are funny and many are even puns, and it does fit perfectly with the game.

Sorry but if you expect this to be a mortal kombat or dark souls, this is not the right place, the jokes are intended.

 

Puns are god horrible though, but just funny names are cool. I like it if i find a "wobbly blade" alot more than finding a "dark ghost omega super 200 times folded katana of cosmic cataclysm"
