I think, for a better aesthetic feel, the weapons you have equipped should be shown at all times, unlike in Terraria, where they only appear when you're attacking. Say you have two one-handed weapons equipped, say, a revolver and a shortsword, the one hooked to the left button is shown in the left hand, ditto with the right. Say you have a two-handed weapon, such as an assault rifle, you should hold the assault rifle with two hands and walk around with it in your hands.

sounds really good, and maybe for more of an aesthetic, other weapons in the pack, maybe one large one can be strapped to the back of the character. Swords and such can be flipped backwards, if archaic, or turn off and set up against the character's side as if being holstered.

In short, just make weapons as visible as possible at all times. This will make Multiplayer more interesting as well. You can see maybe the top 2 weapons in the hotkey, plus the 2 weapons being held at all times on other players.

That would be a problem with massive swords though. I asume there will be some. They are usually much taller than the player.

instead of holding it straight forward, have him holding it with both hands and off to the side, and back. That'll make walking animation with larger weapons look more dynamic, and not so stiff. I'd suggest larger weapons like Great sword and Zanbatou or Zweihanders being strictly 2 handed weapons, so no dual wielding.

Maybe we can have them drag it on the ground, and makes appropriate particles on the material it is dragged on.

It's a Sci-Fi game though. Not Fantasy/RPG like Terraria. Idk if there will be oversized swords, but if there will be, I like this option.

Yeah, I think the same should apply with rifles/machine guns.

On a side note, after using your weapon, maybe have a ready animation for several seconds before going back to a more relaxed position.
ie Firing a rifle, have the animation for the next several seconds be the player aiming the rifle where ever the cursor is pointing.

that was just basic gameplay, he's playing as a Force character, look at PSO Hunter gameplay and see if you can find Great swords
Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2 has great weapon techniques, and soon to be released (hopefully) Phantasy Star Online 2 looks like it will have bigger and better weapons as well. They all carry the larger weapons off to the side and it's all super sci fi.

oh hey here's gameplay of PSO2

Actually, by the looks of the screenshots of the game, I think this idea is already present. Isn't there a character holding a laser-axe?

I dont know. In one of the screenshots it's present and in another it's not. So idk. I hope it is, because it would be pretty cool-looking.

I really like this idea a lot. I think this thought almost deserves it's own thread because it deserves some attention from the devs. I dont know too many games that have that "at the ready" stance, but every time i see something similar in a game i am always incredibly impressed because it adds a sense of realism and the idea that this character is a person that you are helping guide.
