We need space gambling!!

I love gambling in games, slots or even some types of card games. Im not sure how it would be implemented to seem like it belongs though.

What are your thoughts on space gambling?

 

I like the idea of some kind of intergalatic slot machine aslong as the jackpot is 1,000,000 pixels

 

I don't like gambling in real life nor in games (though I may do it in games sometimes), but I honestly like the option to be present. Just the fact that gambling is present adds more depth to the whole thing, not to mention the many side stories that can revolve around it. So yeah! I'm all up for it.

 

Never seen gambling machines in a platformer. A cool way of doing it is have a guy selling items that you can't see the values of, and have the same price range a la Torchlight. All in all, great idea

 

I also like the idea. But I probably won't once I blow all my money on the slots.

 

I could imagine it could cheapen the game, with you suddenly winning a hundred thousand pixels on your first roll, but it'd certainly be nice to have the option.

And making it "for the experience" rather than the reward would be a better path as well, imo. Prevents the cheapening, and it'd make for some nice roleplaying opportunities as well.

 

I had a similar idea the other day, that little mini-games attached to objects could be nice. Something like a pool table you could play with friends, with the game itself being in a little box on the screen since having the game play in-world would be impossible for a number of reasons.

 

Or even a oldskool arcade machine on your ship what opens a new window once of course you put your 20 pixels in for 3 lives on space invaders.

I rarely (if ever) gamble in games, but it is nice to have it as an option. What else would there be to do in those sleazy, smoke-filled intergalactic bars? Other than drink and shoot people's arms off.

 

Yeah like i said i think slots or something would be cool too, or betting on space penguin races. Roulette would be kinda fun too, but i wouldn't want to be able to win so much it made currency worthless at the same time. Maybe its something that can be added in some dlc or something.

 

You shouldn't be able to win too much, or it would become unfair.

 

Could do it like the borderlands 2 slot machine. Put in money, a randomized weapon comes out depending on your winning slot roll value.

Starbound already has confirmed gambling. Randomly generated content is a form of gambling. You want a robot unicorn with laser beam eyes as a pet? 3 monsters per planet, x total possible monster combinations.. (millions? billions? idk.) Going to a new planet takes y resources + z time investment... Congratulations! You now have gambling addiction!

In seriousness, I think a slot machine would be cool, as long as the payout was often and not too much higher than the bet. 1 in 5 winning with 1 - 1:20 payouts scaling rarity. Cheap enough that when you see a slot machine, going, 'OOH, neat, interactive object!' and clicking it a couple times isn't a hassle, and is fun and noisy and blinky, without making it a real source of income (/outcome).

 

Forget playing slot machines. I want to own the slot machines now, and start an intergalactic casino!
