We need a bank!

So my brother brought up a good point. When you die you lose pixels, that's fine, the game needs to take something away or death would be meaningless. However, there is no way to protect your precious pixels, and early game you will find yourself dying repeatedly.

Terraria (yes sorry but its the closest example ) let you save your money in crates and such. By doing that you could store all your money and go out on adventures without fear. When you died, the money you earned on the adventure would be lost, but you could not lose what you had placed in the bank. The thing is because I could store my money, I could do stupid things.

What if I want to jump off a cliff, what if I want to play suicide scout? This is a game, I know its silly but sometimes I want to be able to die frivolously. If I can't store pixels I am stuck with an unrelenting fear of death. I have earned a very modest 2000 pixels and already I am ridiculously paranoid about death.

I believe letting players store pixels will cultivate more adventurous gameplay because players will not be afraid to venture into the unknown. And death will still have an impact because assuming the players are on planets of reasonable challenge for them, they will be earning reasonable pixels that would be lost if they died. Only if they survive and make it back home or to their ship can they store their Pixels.

Perhaps Pixels could only be stored on the ship. In this way players could not just plop down chests every ten feet and save the pixels they earned. And if they wanted to beam back up to save the pixels they earned they would lose their place on the planet requiring them to back track quite a bit for their paranoia. Of course they also could not beam out while underground or in enemy structures so they would have to get to the surface as well.

I like the idea of being able to store pixels on the ship.

I like the ship idea, but last I knew (though I admit it may have been patched up now) you could just mine out the back wall behind you underground and then beam up.

Good to know! but probably a bug. I am going to assume they don't want you to be able to do that. So the ship idea remains valid : )

Death becomes meaningless without some detriment to it. I think losing money makes you not want to die.

So why should the fruits of previous labor where you managed to get away be lost because of the failure of the current? Once you get a load of pixels back to the ship, it should be yours for good.

I agree with the storing pixels on the ship idea, and the people who really want death to have dire consequences can play hardmode or something similar. Honestly losing pixels is more annoying than anything, it's not like minecrafts die and lose everything mechanic

Ooh, you know what would be awesome? Being able to store pixels on your ship without repercussion, but if you die on a planet you lose ALL of the ones you're carrying. That would actually be an amazing change, I think. It would still carry that same fear aspect, especially if you're bringing a lot of money from your ship to buy something from a merchant in a dangerous land. It would provide a fun choice for the player to decide whether or not to bring a lot of their money to buy big items, or leave it at home where it's safe.

Maybe a bank or device that reduces the amount of pixels you lose on death? Death still has an impact but not as much. I would just like a ship storage or safe storage on top of what we have.

I could get behind this idea. Although one thing that might mitigate the problems people ate having would be to let you pick up your lost pixels of you return to where you died. My understanding is that the drops disappear very quickly.

I know I've breathed many a sigh of relief I in Terarria after derping and dying with significant cash on my person.

Whole heartedly agree, so long as you can store the pixels in your ship, if you die on planet its your own darn fault, so I don't mind loosing whatever pixels I had on me.

Yeah but whether I have 10000 pixels or 10, I don't want to die... the game's imbalance due to being early beta and severe difficulty makes it worse, but I hope it stays a challenge once balancing is done. But I'm reminded of Terraria... I was able to store my money but the game was still a challenge, and I could go get the ones I dropped on death again. It felt fair and balanced. It should (eventually) be the same in Starbound, I feel. Cause currently upon death your lost pixels are consumed, and death is a very frequent thing due to imbalance issues.

The thing is, I am fine with losing the pixels I have on me altogether. To me if I could go back and pick them up, I would. And that means several more deaths trying to get back to wherever I was. I think It would actually be more relaxing to know that they are just gone and you don't have to go looking for them. I just don't want all of them to be at stake at all times.

If I can't store them anywhere, all of my pixels are at risk. Always. That does not feel fun to me, and will inevitably just lead to many a rage quits.
