I would like to suggest one more type of landing and anti-grief systems. Before you explore every planet you can only get there by a special landing capsule which makes a small crater when it falls down. Then you can build a teleporter on that planet. So now you have an ability to teleport from your ship to that planet (of course you must be near it). It will add more privacy to player's homeworlds. So it can be some sort of anti-grief. You can build AA's only in your homeworld (it will cost some resources of course). So every player can engage AA's on players they dont want to see near his homeworld. It can be sheduled. The other players will be warned if the owner of the homeworld engaged turrets on them and they are very close to the protected area. If they decide to ignore the warning their landing capsule will be shot down. The AA's will have some sort of a cooldown (you can improve your AA's to lower the cooldown etc.) So you need to upgrade your turrets in order to protect your homeworld from the hostile players. I really want to see that feature in Starbound. Notifications: *AA - Anti Air turrets.
I don't think this is necessary, since players can already set their homeworlds so that no one else can build or change the terrain on the planet. Griefing isn't really a problem with what's already in place.
But it could be very exciting to protect against the griefers rather than just ban players from modifying your homeworld My idea is that only players must protect their homeworlds with their tools not just with the rules of server. It will look like terraria server with more strong "privacy plugin". I think it will be terrible.
I like this idea. On servers in minecrfat and terraria it was either super easy to blow up someones base, or you would just get an invisisble barrier stoping you from doing anything. This would let you to protect your base, but still allow you to have some base raiding action.
Nice idea, but I think that capsules is unnecessary. Only need jamming teleportation device with password.
I like the idea, but I feel that this is almost too much work to keep people off your planet. If I am busy doing other things around a my home world or I am on another planet, I don't want to have to worry about people sneaking by my defenses and ruining my home planet. Nice idea, but unless you want the extra work, it seems to complicated
Then your world can be simply destroyed by any griefer without any privacy protection. So, I think that devs should add space pod landing anyway + different options of privacy to the servers. 0-no privacy 1-server rule protection 2-self defence possibilities. I'm just trying to avoid anti-griefer systems like plugins in terraria. Invisible area of untouchable blocks causes lags when you try to interact with it. I hate so unrealistic restrictions. It ruins all the atmosphere of the multiplayer gameplay because it will have only one description like a:"You cannot modify homeworld of %username%".
I understand that there has to be some way to prevent griefers, and it shouldn't be all glitchy like you usually find in Minecraft, but trying to add an extra element that people have to think about has can take away that feeling of relaxed gameplay you can have. Now there is more to worry about, even when you don't want it. I actually like the idea of being able to chose wether you use the defense system, or if it automatically blocks them from changing things.
pretend that every1 has this system in place except for you op, and for some reason planets no longer procedurally generate on the official servers since there are way too many generated, and lets pretend for a moment that the only way to get a planet to generate is to either play by yourself or host ur own starbound server...(without hamachi using ur own port forwarding methods on your own modem/router)im pretty sure you would find it very frustrating if you couldn't access any planets because your 'pod' keeps getting shot down and you killed by aa turrets because they are built to preemptively prevent griefers griefing...imagine furthur this happened on every planet you tried to visit (some without the warning cause they decided to implement a feature that allowed them to choose to not show a warning when visiting a defended homeworld...) that said, i think this idea totally clashes with one of the themes of starbound; which entail space exploration on new worlds (even if they are already populated by people that have claimed them...) i dont think that any online world should be made to be only a world that one person only can experience and explore, i think the experience (even if just to look around) should be open to every1 and not just a private party...(if you want planets that you yourself have access to then play single player...) this idea makes it sound like you want a way to randomly kill any1 curious enough to look around your hw (which u could probably do anyway in 'overlord mode') tl:dr no i dont like the idea of anti air turrets preventing other players access to your home world... the anti-air would be nice however, to prevent things like asteroids or flying mobs or scripted alien invasions (or something like that) from messing up ur stuff on the surface of ur homeworld... edit: (i do however think planet-side weather should influence how successful you'll be when beaming down to a planet from your ship still dont like the 'DBZ crash a space pod onto a planet' idea tho ) edit cont.:im pretty sure the devs will put in a system that warns u before-hand when visiting another players homeworld thats somthing like 'this planet is a homeworld claimed by player:so and so, due to certain restrictions use of any terraforming equipment has been prohibited...travel to planet anyway? Y/N?' that way they know beforehand they cant change anything and still have an option to back out if they wanted and if they tried to use the terraforming equipment there it would be greyed out or somthing similar
