Way too hard to get ore / heal yourself.

Bandages are right there in the crafting menu and they're very easy to acquire. I think they make the game too easy. Iron ore is found deeper in the ground; sometimes it appears that caves end after only 20 blocks but if you can peak down a few blocks they sometimes are right beside a deeper cavern. For pixels all you need to do is loop around the world maybe once and you'll have more than enough for an entire iron armor set.

To this issue, I have a general strategy:
    1) Get a Tent. I seem to find one in every world as long as I keep going in one direction long enough. Must be luck, I guess
    2) Get a fire
    3) Carry them.

Whenever you're exploring caves, keep a mental note to never let yourself get below 50% HP. If so, wall yourself in and sleep in the tent. Not only do you feel like an authentic explorer from doing so, the fire will let you cook means from any meat you get while down in the dungeons.

How do you get iron armour? I'm at copper now, and have no clue whatsoever about how to get upto iron. Do i have to beat the first boss to get that molten core thing? What even is the molten core, where do i get it? o_O

No, lets not dumb the game down.

    Healing with crafted items. Only.

I am sure we will all see its trivial once we get more knowledgable with crafting options.

Got plenty of tents on my first word... just dragging one around with myself. Healing is not a problem.

You get iron armor by upgrading your current copper one. It is in the list of the anvil, probably has some funky name. For Avians it's hatchling's <insert armor piece name>. You need the copper armor in your inventory, not equipped, you need a healthy amount of pixels, and iron bars.

    As for the molten core..
It is a drop from the Tier 1 boss. If you have that you can upgrade your engines to leave the alpha sector. You really shouldn't rush it, the boss has the difficulty of the highest threat level of tier 1, which is 10. You really should get some decent gear before that.

Cheers! Right now i have the iron hunting bow, a pretty awesome bonesword thing, and the floran's iron helmet and anklets. I'll get the chest piece in a bit. I have a bunch of bandages as well. Is that enough?

Also, does anyone know where you can get better ranged weapons? e.g. guns? I found a village, but the weapons guy there was only selling swords :(

Fuel up your ship with wood and coal, and check nearby planets :) Stick to threat levels 2-3 now, when you are good enough to stomp them, go higher. There must be stuff out there somewhere :) I found a funky lightning spewing sword of doom on a level 2 desert world.

I have to say that the starting quest didn't include important things like healing and upgrading. The last quest for the beacon brings in a lv.10 boss without first emphasizing on how important it is to upgrade and the benefits of warmth vs armor. I think they should tweak the quest to push the player into exploring the starting planet more and encourage experimenting with resources. Took me an 2 hours with a friend to figure out bandages, till then we had to carry around a bed. This is a beta so some things will change. If you played any game like Terraria, Minecraft or Edge of Space it will be obvious to you that ore goes from common to rare and the the surface always contains little to no ore. Always dig a shaft straight down to see if you are on ore rich soil. Where i land it is just empty with a few coal blocks here and there, I moved further to the left and bang ore jackpot for two players.
Armor Pen does a great deal of difference in this game btw and like I said, experiment with crafting, planets have plenty of ore for you to craft your whole menu a dozen times.

Bandages really make the game a LOT easier. They heal a huge chunk over time. If you're not on a planet with those vine trees, just go to a few caves, get some vines and voila! each vine is like 2 bandages or something! As for ore, I just dug straight down for 20 minutes and had 200 iron, 50 silver, 100 copper, and 700 pixels. Died, lost some pixels, but kept the ore ^^ just dig down, get a bunch of stuff, and suicide. Automatic teleport back to safety for the cost of 25 percent of your pixels.

Yeah healing is WAAAYYYYY to hard. Ore isn't that hard and mining gets much easier with a pickaxe.

The game has a slow beginning but once you get bandages and get to the ore rich planets it isn't a problem. Just think of it like Don't Starve. It isn't even as hard of a start as Don't Starve.

I do admit ores seem to be a little hard to find, I was hoping the game would have caves similar to terraria's but they aren't even caves! they are just big wells of water. However, I think healing doesn't need to much help, although I wish you lost less pixels

Copper pick will be the nicest thing ever once you get one

Yeah overall I agree, the main issue is the pixel costs which is being addressed (hopefully it's good with the new patch). Ores are ridiculously easy to get once you find villages (which tend to have a plethora of bars and ore of all levels of the tier) and you visit a few planets, there occasionally is one or two out of five that is stock full of a type of ore. It seems like each planet has a main ore type that it's populated with. I usually find dominantly one type of ore on each planet.

You don't need to turn the fiber into fabric anymore. You can just use the work bench to craft the fiber into bandages.

Dig deep and you will find big caves

Really, bandages trivialize the whole health mechanic.

Plant Fibres are everywhere and easy to mine out with a stone axe, you can dig quite deep and usually find different ore types and TONS of caches with pixels in them.

Important for people to realise that some threads on the forum will be wildly out of context now that changes have come in. Like this one, which was about an issue from before the patch which made creating bandages far far easier.

I think they might want to consider reducing the heal amount on bandages, but other than that they're working well at the moment - first line of healing.

You don't even need the work bench
