Hey guys! I guess quite a lot of you here have played Minecraft, and quite likely even on a large public server. And hopefully just a few of you had to deal with griefers sabotaging or defacing your creations... anyways, I got a suggestion that may prevent flooding of your bases and may be overall handy when it comes to taking care of the flooded areas. So, what I want to suggest is a special type of water tank (I am pretty sure water tanks were already suggested, but my idea slightly differs and has a different application) that, if submerged, pumps water inside of it until it fills up. So by placing one of these babies on your base you can handle a flood, you can also deploy them somewhere else like underground while mining when you want to break a wall of underwater lake but don't want anything eklse to be flooded. You can then just collect the water in conventional methods, or if some sort of advanced pipework system gets implemented, pump it out into other tanks! Also, a suggestion how can this used in combo with wiring: In default mode, the tank pumps up all the water no matter what until it fills up. In alternate mode, toggleable by wiring, it releases all the water from itself and doesn't pump anything back in! So what do you think, guys?

That's a great idea! I have been irritated by water in Terraria many times before, so something like this would be nice.
Great idea. Have a +1! Couple of questions to promote thinking - What happens to the stored water if you destroy the tank when it's full? - could you withdraw water from the tank to (for example) fill a bucket? P.S If your creations were being griefed, why didn't you play singleplayer?
I personally hope that Starbound has pumps, pipes, outlets and grates to allow manipulation and control of liquids. Then you could set up pipes to pump water out of a cave and contain it in your suggested water storage tanks.
-Obviously, we either: Get the placeable item back, but all the water spreads back. Or... "Filled" tank is dropped instead of ordinary, which pretty much contains all the water in an item form. -of course! It can also be combined, just like Deadlyapples suggests, with other machinery! And, yeah, buckets too! Deadlyapples, I imagine such system would be pretty awesome, but this certain "automated tank" I am suggesting is designed to, unlike machinery you suggest, be self-sufficient, that is, you just deploy it and no additional placing is required. Also, it would work perfectly in combination with pipeworks and other systems you suggest! P.S. I played singleplayer, multiplayer on small friends server and on massive public server... and you know what? It was worth it! I don't care some idiots would damage my structures, they'd recieve their righteous punishment anyways, and you can't share your structures with othe rplayers same way as on public server! So yeah, sharing architectural achievements is more prior to having them 100% safe to me!
Ah I see. Well either way it would be nice to store liquid in a container other than just an area we build out of blocks. !
Well considering how similar it is to terraria, i think it'll be possible to make a water "tank" using no special blocks at all... I'm not sure how different an actual tank would be from that though :\
I think that what Tleno is suggesting is for a smaller way to hold a lot of water. Something 2x3 might be able to 'sponge' more than double the space it actually occupies, making it more space efficient than a tank made with blocks, plus an easier method than needing to some how drain a flooded building.
I would prefer the second method, dropping an item. What is the point of it if it will just re-flood your base when you try an move it?
I think it would be cool if it takes up less space and contains more liquid but that causes it to be under pressure seen as its containing more liquid in a smaller space. This could make it dangerous and potentially explosive. At least in terms of water pressure explosive. No flames or anything. Not that something that is explosive is inherently fiery.
Why stop at water? What if you could get a special kind (more expensive) that would allow you to drain away lava?
Lava, tar, honey, chocolate milk, that unusual white liquid it's unpolite to talk about, oil, sparkling mineral water... yeah...
Kinda hoping you're talking about mayonnaise or tarter sauce (Gosh, I swear those sauces are the hardest things to spell)
I meant natural, flavourless youghurt. Not a single polite man would talk about something that has no flavour!
