Water planets ye you know planet with only water and maybe some caves down there. And gas planets i mean like a giant planet out of gas wich you would need some really hard to get endgme suit to be on(if you dont have the suit you will die of the gas). In the middle ogf the planet there would be some very special ore, and some treat 90-100 enemys. The ore can be used to make really strong armor or really high damage weps.
A planet covered in a toxic miasma, like Venus, or one actually made of gas like Jupiter? Actually both would be viable if implemented correctly Also it's not confirmed if they are adding a breath meter or not not making a point with that other than the thought itself which is interesting
Traveling in vehicles, extract rare materials and treasures while evading the native fauna. It'd seem like a different way of exploring ~Jake
I was just considering of making my own thread on gas giants, but since this hits pretty close home, I guess I could just give my two cents here. It seems laughably ridiculous to have gas giants as explorable planets since the gravity is so goddamned insane that there'd have to be some seriously contrived plot devices to drive any ship even close to it. My own preference on gas giants is that since they tend to have a lot of moons, just explore those - but have the gas giant loom in the background like the big ugly death sentence that it is. Because gas giants are f'n terrifying. I mean it. Just look at pictures of Jupiter and remember that the damn thing is over a thousand times bigger than Earth and composed of almost nothing but deadly storms and a gravity that makes instant pizza out of anything close enough. But with that said, it would be pretty cool to be able to have some sort of element of exploration inside Sounds a lot like Star Control to me
I had almost forgotten about the insane properties of gas giants. There *is* a reason they are called giants after all. In light of this new information the "solid planet covered in gas" idea would be a more viable route for the development team to take. Considering this it is very likely that some planets will have a toxic atmosphere, and that they will be higher-level planets (so you have a chance to get the gear you need to survive it)
I already suggested gas giants on the first week the forums where up! That wouldn't be a gas gaint then! while theres nothing wrong with planets covered in strange gases (the earth is covered in gas, we call it air) a gas giant could have some intersting stuff
that is a spectacular idea, i always loved aquatic planets and i would love to make a network of cities both floating on the waves and underneath them.
The problem is that there's no known surface. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter#Internal_structure And even if it does have, how would you make it into a viable area to explore? I'm seriously asking because I'm actually interested to hear what you think a game where you explore the surface of a gas giant looks like. I'm betting that the player first needs to be able to withstand a megaton or two of pressure and to skinny dip in molten rock before even considering a walk inside that thing. P.S. I'm still fucking afraid of that massive thing.
Thinking back on gas giants, yes, the gravity and such would kill you, so exploration of them would be rather unrealistic, even for a video game. Moons do make sense, however. As for water worlds, the pressure by the time you reach land to walk on would be just as bad, if not worse than the effect of gravity on a gas giant. Thus, water exploration would only be feasable on at least semi-terrestrial worlds. Though floating colonies would be nice to see. At very least, you'd need a vehicle to explore the ocean on a water world, though even that is a stretch.
Exploring the gas planets would only be possible if you had evolved some anti-gravitational field technology, so, exploring their moons would seem a more viable option. Water planets are already confirmed I guess, so there isn't very much to discuss about them. I fear Jupiter, it looks so intimidating...
Sorry all i didnt meant a gas planet like Jupiter i meant like Venus. Didn't knew gas planets were made out of pure gas. Actually thought they had a core(Just call me stupid)
No, we will not call you stupid - gas giants might theoretically have a core, we just don't know that for certain, yet. A toxic planet's a whole different matter of course, that could be very eerie and cool That's true, the pure pressure of a mighty deep ocean would be just as bad. But I take that over a gas giant for a very childish reason, which is that it's easier to think of and relate to an ocean's bottom and also come up with scenarios for it. A gas giant is such an even bigger mystery inside that it's hard to relate to. So I wouldn't mind unfeasible scenarios, like I said earlier, such extreme environments would be f'n awesome to explore, I just can't get excited over a theoretical surface inside a huge ball of gas just as much as a deep and vast ocean that's rich with life both docile and hostile.
Yes, gas planets would be quite difficult to explore if you take into account the MASSIVE gravity those things have. It's crazy. Maybe though, if the devs really wanted to, they could probably work out. Now, water (or some other liquid) planets would be very interesting. Landing the ship would be "fun" to say the least, but besides that, they could have interesting creatures living there (underwater cities full of very intelligent squid, for example). They'd be fun to mess around on.
Myees, I actually posted a thread of my own on aqua planets (as well as a couple other things) and I'm into it mostly because of the atmosphere of a dark deep. Damn spooky, man.
Explore the gas giants can be a good idea, with some flying creatures in their atmosphere (and then, look Treshold in Halo, there are many stations pumping gas on it, which could, in Starbound, become interesting).
Yes, after the fluid management, why not add support of gases? It will permit to do a lot of traps (why not toxic or soporific gas or as fuel or power source?)
