Was impressed with the beta so far, but everone seems to be in such a haste to get the best stuff

So it feels like they are rushing it and missing out.

I agree. There is one amazing grind for loot and craft gear, as the major point of all the game, they rush into high level planets without gear for it. It seems it's the objective many people set to get the best gear, then to actually play lol

Why do people spend so much time worrying about what everyone else is doing?

Just enjoy your own experience, bro.

 

I must admit I rushed around finding some great gear on the way only I left the planet I started on then kept planet jumping only to leave all my good stuff in a chest on the first planet and I have not got a clue where I started.. I'm slowing down now taken more in as go..

 

I've spent most of my time dungeon diving (and getting no appreciable loot).

 

I'm personally doing a bit of everything, and still grinding iron.

However, regardless of how much other people are rushing, this is a game with huge replayability in my opinion due to the different races. So even those players rushing through the game should in theory have a lot to do after maxing the tiers.

 

10 or so hours in, just hit Beta quadrant. No rush here, lol

 

Because we want guns and tech. I want to make a home, but right now I can only make one out of dungeon items or wood/iron/steel.

 

Speaking of, where can you gets guns?

 

I feel that I was only rushing to get better stuff because the scale at the start of the game is tipped against you.

 

There seems to be a lot of RNG in whether you find good stuff. Some people start on worlds with merchants and dungeons right there. I've found one florian clothing merchant and a largely lootless avian temple and apex lab. So that, in combination with having less playtime than some, means I'm not very far. I don't really mind, though, because I'm still having fun.

 

As it should be, stuck on a random planet with no gear, a single weapon, no tools, no fuel and the tiniest ship your race could give you, lol. I dunno, saw so many people complaing about the lack of realism starting in the "stone-age" but given the circumstances the game puts you in, it makes total sense to me.

 

5h and I'm still on the first planet. I built a cosy half wood / half mushroom house attached to a cliff.

I'm growing plants and tweaking the house during the day and I explore the underground at night

 

See, the other thing is, the difficulty hill is very jagged right now. I can't really get a better pick until I get another piece of platinum (and I'm talking ONE MORE PIECE OF ORE FFFFFUUUUUUU). Now, this part is a personal thing, but I don't want to progress until I get my new pickaxe. Mining through obsidian is painful, so if I'm going to spelunk for ore I want to be able to chip through tiles very quickly, hence my issue with my current pickaxe.

And then platinum is something found in 30+ planets or chests. My stumbling into chests with platinum is a very rare occurrence. This is pretty much the reason why I'm not rushing, but the other thing is I FUKKEN LOVE TERRAFORMING AND BUILDING.

BUT, for that particular issue, I'm not really given a wide set of building materials to make use of unless I go tearing down buildings from planets. HOWEVER, even if I decide to do that, chipping down the tiles requires the patience of a wise monk, so I'm kinda circling around in agony right now. It's beta time of course so things will smoothen, but jeez!

 

I'm not attacking you, since I have no idea what your opinion on the matter is, but I think it's a nice point to make that the game SHOULD be tipped against the player.

 

With so many planets out there, I honestly want to be that one rumored/mythical creature that the galaxy adopts as folklore that goes around stripping planets clean of resources and then leaving them barren. Frankly, I'd like even FASTER ways to mine/gather to achieve that goal.

With this many planets out there, I dont really think rushing to an endgame is an issue.

 

Not at the expense of player enjoyment. I personally didn't start having any actual fun with Starbound until a few hours in and I didn't die when an enemy looked at me too intently.

 

I'm enjoying the game on my own pace, which is very slow haha... Love to wander around on the various planets, exploring this and that, I'm still running into surprises

 

I think it all depends on what your playstyle is, and who you play with, Alot of good comments here, cheers
