development had building up to unstable last month ago so do you guys have any ideas when it will start porting to PS4/X1 or Vita?? consoles because from ages ago.. i was trying to spearhead some threads in place and Tiy had noticed about that before in twitter so.. i do want to stir things up and ask Tiy or other developers to make of what it should be doing. atfer they will work on stable branch first to PC respectable by going first on that out-dated since April 2014 so.. here is the year of 2015 - http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/ps4-ps-vita-editions-of-starbound.83573/ - points to a old thread from last August so you can go look for any information on that..

"with respect to consoles and such.." no flaming or console vs PC is allowed please" trying to make this thread to steer into right way with some questions that went un-answered from months ago so.. here we go :)

I would not expect it to be ported before 1.0 is reached

wow a quick answer out of the bat.. nice and um thanks Darklight for answering back :) and i can answer back.. with good debate.. well yes um its just i know its too sudden to ask quickly but if we did create a storm up enough to make people notice.. it will all pan out in end.. after that Starbound has the potential to bring in quick sales like terraria as i can see as days will trod along

Creating a storm is the worst idea possible. =_=

You would have them rush out what they have in its incomplete state. Rush it out to a far more restrictive platform than the PC. Instead of waiting a bit longer and getting a complete product. How can you not see that it is a bad idea, is beyond me.

before this game goes to other ports, the game needs to be either final stable release or the developers find that they can safely port it to other platforms with relative ease. My 2cents anyway

I think it'll make its way to PS4 eventually.....the devs have confirmed they will have a Vita version(not at release though) so a PS4 version would be logical.....but it'll probably be at least a year wait and that's optimistic, probably going to be years. But the biggest thing you'd miss on PS4/vita is the mods and this game is built to have amazing mods and already has tons of mind-blowing, game-changing mods that greatly enhance the experience.....combine that with the fact that this game will also have a DRM-free version at release and I don't see any reason not to play this on PC......I still love my PS4 and buy most of my games for it, but this one is pure and simply meant to be played on PC and there's no replacement for it.

yes but um i am not asking for them to rush. but in respect.. allow them to polish them and iron out the bugs first and then they got to put it through cert (takes 2 weeks to one month) to submit it to Sony and actually if Tiy starts to put in PS4.. its not a restrictive platform because the PS4 system design can obey the PC coding as well.. but not for PS3.. its bit tricker because it uses C++ language to run games..

Someone close this thread, Terraria is on PS4 and it's obvious Starbound will be when it's ready. Pushing for a port when the game isn't even out of nightly build stage is asinine.

alright i do understand well its um not needed to post this thread but i do feel however its important to let the unstable get fixed out first and then let it hits stable at time.. then we will wait to see etc etc what happens after that. just trying to speak out to people here for some console support on that one.. :)

It has support and plenty of eager Playstation users waiting in the wings.

When the PC version is completed, development/porting will begin.

Yeah man, I don't want them to rush the release or ship a poor product but I atleast want to know that it's still coming.. I get its in the unstable build and release may not be soon, but atleast post what the year is looking for ps4/vita, I'm not expecting an accurate synopsis but anything is better than a post from a year ago..

It is a lot of work to port for consoles and that kind of thing (so far as I understand). That is one of the reasons why console ports often see fewer or no updates relative to the PC versions. The earlier the game ports to console the less quality its release and maintenance there will be, and it will also slow the development of the PC version even more. Please correct me if I am wrong.

  17. We almost certainly won't be porting Starbound to any consoles before we release 1.0 on PC. :)
Luckily we built Starbound with some thought to porting to consoles, so the programming aspect of it will be fairly simple. The difficult bit is the gameplay-- Starbound relies pretty heavily on mouse/keyboard right now, so how do we translate that to gamepads in a way that feels natural for the player? Something we've been thinking about a bit recently.

Good question. I'm sure the dev team knows exactly what the different controls that need to be bound are. I'm having trouble thinking of every control needed myself.
    • There are the different character menus (e.g. inventory, quests, codices...) which could be consolidated into tabs occupying the left half of the screen. The first tab that comes up is inventory, then crafting, then map, then quest journal.
    • Then, while in inventory you need to be able to quick stack (shift+LM) and separate (hopefully pick up one of...) stacks (RM). And you need a way to quick close all menus regardless of type (probably using the regular character menu button ( or the standard back out of menu button anyway (either start or B again) (ESC).
    • Movement controls on the left thumb stick. But as to whether jumping is only by pushing the thumbstick up or with a separate button... and as for how that would interact with dropping through platforms (Down+Jump)
    • Beam up / down quick key.
    • Then you have things like the Inspect (N), Look (CTL), and show names / interactables (ALT), which could theoretically be removed. Or each could be bound to a specific combination of keys, or something that's context sensitive.
    • Interact with gameplay objects (E).
    • Craft (could be consolidated into the character menus system) (C).
    • The most complicated part is obviously the hotbar. Left and right triggers have to be for using the L/R hands and primary / alternate fire, with the D pad for selecting items on hotbar.
    • Primary / secondary hand item swap (Z), as well as toggle between current hotbar item and primay / secondary (X). Maybe have a specific quicktoggle hotbar menu bound to a specific key (maybe one of the bumpers?) which then has specific keys for these controls, which otherwise aren't as important. Well, maybe the hotbar / primary equip toggle (X) would be good to map to one of the face buttons.
    • Actually this brings up a question. When a one-handed item is equipped and on the hotbar but not in the primary / secondary slot, Z lets you swap between your primary and secondary currently in your nonactive hand, and X lets you swap between having both primary and secondary out or having one and the hotbar item out. What is the point of ` to make your primary and secondary your active items again? It fulfills the same function as X, but prevents you from switching back, which makes it strictly worse.
    • Drop item (Q).
    • Use tech (F).
    • Of course since you want to be able to switch each hand individually, you would need some sort of combination keys + D pad to select specific items with specific hands. Or maybe using the bumpers to scroll between items on your hotbar?
    • And then of course you have to have specific shortcuts for MM, wiring tool, and paint gun, as well as for whatever else (flashlight?). Then there's the 1x1 switch for the MM (SHFT)...
    • And then there's the question of whether console users get a free cursor or a limited targetting range in a circle around them... Wow this is getting complicated.
I have an idea! Could make it a community effort: (depending on difficulty in implementation) release gamepad support and let us customise the keybindings as fully as possible. Then collect data for what people use most commonly and iterate from there.

well yeah Molly and thanks for answering us back and i (People) do understand that we have to wait for that 1.0 to come out first and Molly.. can you try adding the control layout that is same to terraria for PS4/Vita in aspect.. i am not asking you to copy the ideas but more rather.. get people to move easily with same layout as well.. along with zoom feature added in or not.. just thats up to you but i think PS4 is more then a good idea to go porting since its um easy to code using PC system inside PS4.. had you thought about that?

actually thanks to Tiy's twitter post.. i noticed the starbound can be customzation'ed if it just do that feature change http://i.imgur.com/7pceQnU.png
